Personally I have never had a Pizza,a kebab,sweet corn or a Jaffa cake/chocolate orange...

I’ve never had haggis, don’t fancy it and you can’t get it here anyway.
I have sushi and sashimi several times a week though !

Grandma70s Fri 19-Feb-21 07:10:26

I’ve never had sushi, and I don’t intend to either. Nor black pudding.

Thai food; not that I am opposed to it, I just am not familiar with the items and what to order. We do not order out very often at all, or if we do go out for dinner (post-C) it is usually to familiar pub-food place.

Nell8 I dont know anyone who has eaten a deep fried Mars bar ,I'm sure they are a myth...I live in the West of Scotland and none of the local chip shops sell them .
I have deep fried a bounty bar and served it with Pineapple sorbet..its a Nigella Lawson recipe ..once was enough

MayBee70 Fri 19-Feb-21 00:20:27

I bought some pickled eggs a while back because I realised I’d always seen them in fish and chip shops but had never had one. Never again. Who thought up the idea? And, when they did why did they carry on doing it?

NotSpaghetti Thu 18-Feb-21 23:00:59

I think lots of us have moved to discussing unusual things we haven’t eaten rather than “popular” things. So whilst I’ve not had lots of things that may be “popular” in their home country (day-old chick/eggs springs to mind) I’ve eaten (at least once) most things I consider popular here in the UK.
I think the original question was more interesting.

Cabbie21 Thu 18-Feb-21 17:20:17

I have tried several things once- never again!
I avoid sea food as those I have tried are either revolting or made me ill.
I have never tried doner kebab or sushi.
I could just fancy a good quality burger right now, but must go and cook cauliflower cheese instead.

Maggiemaybe Thu 18-Feb-21 17:12:40

I think I’ve tried everything that could be classed as popular in the UK. The only things I wouldn’t eat again are liver, kidney, squid and black pudding. And skate, because the one I tried smelt of urine and tasted as I imagine urine would. envy

Atqui Thu 18-Feb-21 16:51:38

I’ve never tried insects or sheep’s eyes - but Imwouldnt call them. popular foods. Never tried sweatmeats , tripe or snails, but I don’t know how popular they are either! I think black pudding is popular but I’ve never tried that!

3nanny6 Thu 18-Feb-21 16:43:28

Never had Oysters, Tripe, Chorizo, Haslet, Faggots, Sheeps Eyes, Pigs Livers, and what is that pink stuff is it called taramasalata it is in supermarkets and in tubs near the hummus. These things just seem revolting to me.

JaneJudge Thu 18-Feb-21 16:16:19

do you mean the shop bought onion bhajis? as fresh ones are lovely in comparison!

Grandma11 Thu 18-Feb-21 16:04:40

Chicken Kebabs are Yummy! Marinated Chicken Breast threaded onto a skewer and cooked on a Rotisserie spit, served in a Pitta bread or Nan, stuffed full of salad and drizzled with your choice of Sauces.
Our local Chip shop is owned and run by a Greek family and they. Serve this kind of Kebab along with those filled with controlled pieces of meat or King Prawn, all cooked to order, Delicious!

EkwaNimitee Thu 18-Feb-21 15:37:16

Mussels and the like. Knowing their feeding style is what mostly puts me off. Wary of getting food poisoning . Doner kebabs too, never seems a safe way of cooking to me

Witzend Thu 18-Feb-21 15:25:13

Doner kebab, me too. Never fancied it. And felt entirely justified when a Greek Cypriot friend from N London told me about one that had been dismantled for cleaning - and the inside was alive with maggots.?

Any raw fish,

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 18-Feb-21 15:19:27

I can't stand the smell of curry and have never eaten one, I don't think I ever will.

I ate a doner kebab once - it was about as tasty as a piece of string, never again. One onion bhaji was quite enough - absolutely foul.

JaneJudge Thu 18-Feb-21 13:19:57

this is a nice southern fried chicken recipe

I watched a program on doner kebabs (yes I am that sad grin ) and it is all lamb, it's just very high in saturated fat. The trukish kebab shops here do do doner but they also do fresh lamb, fresh chicken and lamb kofte, fresh rices, quinoa, bulgar wheat, hummous, lovely fresh salads and the most delicious flatbreads in the world (maybe, I have never been to turkey smile ) it certainly never feels greasy or unhealthy.

I am trying to think of things I haven't tried as I do tend to try everything but I haven't tried snails either as someone else mentioned, I'm not sure I'd want to either

sodapop Thu 18-Feb-21 13:11:08

My guilty pleasure was KFC but my husband now does his own version which is really good and maybe a bit healthier.

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 18-Feb-21 11:46:43

When I lived in Kensington (in the 60s) I was offered an Oyster and didn't want to offend anyone so had it - it was revolting!!
Have not knowingly had any creepy crawlies or Blue Cheese

henetha Thu 18-Feb-21 11:41:09

Scallops, never tasted them . Where can I buy some?

Nannarose Thu 18-Feb-21 11:33:18

Isn't there a huge difference between food you make yourself and 'take away' or mass-produced food?
I make my own pizza & kebab and love them both. I also like sweet corn -especially if I can follow the old adage that you can walk down the garden to pick the sweetcorn, but you must run back to put it in the pot.
I think I would be hard pushed to try sheep eyeballs, but everything else listed I have at least tried.
And I not only what to know what humbles are (a veggie pie?) but please grumppa tell us what weasand, jot and udder looked like!

grumppa Thu 18-Feb-21 11:22:38

If =popular” means sold out of a van in an outdoor market, then I confess to not having tried three items I saw in Great Yarmouth some years ago: weasand, jot and udder.

BigBertha1 Thu 18-Feb-21 11:20:09

Me too never had a McDonalds burger or anything from KFC - all smells horrible. also never eaten
-chipotle
- sashimi
- kimchi
- sea urchins
- marmite
-horseradish
- edible insects
- eels
tried lots of other things I will never eat again.

essjay Thu 18-Feb-21 11:14:45

sushi, squid, oysters. used to love cockles but now the very thought of them turns my stomach!

Blondiescot Thu 18-Feb-21 11:09:30

Proper kebabs, like the ones you get in Turkey, are amazing and most bear absolutely no relation to the doner kebabs you get here. Some are actually more like casseroles or stews and taste delicious!
