What are your stories and anecdotes about the current shortage on some shelves?

Mawbe you are a Shreddie snob! I have no time to knit my own so am forced to buy them ready made.
If they are not available I go for Weetabix or bran flakes ( I used to crochet bran flakes for Kellogg's, it was a well paid job tha knaws.)

Guilty as charged m’lud grin

(There was no Toblerone though, last time I looked.)

Casdon DH drove a lorry for Waitrose and always said only the highest level management were paid more than the drivers.

Apart from the ongoing cat food problems we don't have any empty shelves, but certainly have gaps.

So glad I didn't mention it was Waitrose we went to last Friday.
It was the first visit to an actual store in 19 months!!

I did moan about the avocados - hope no-one heard me.

SueDonim Mon 09-Aug-21 23:16:10

Katek, my friend accidentally started a Waitrose rumour in my little town! (We are 120 miles from a Waitrose.)

We all heard a new grocery store was going to open but when all was revealed it turned out to be a new Coop. My friend was in a cafe chatting about it and said to her companion ‘Shame it’s not a Waitrose.’ She then heard a woman at the next table say to her friend ‘Did you hear that? They’re going to open a Waitrose!’ ???

Definitely not MawBe, I can’t knit to save my life - and it’s not me that eats Shreddies either, it’s my son. The gin I will admit to, but a lack of tonic has kept me on the straight and narrow, so the shortages must be a blessing in disguise.

Wot, no tonic? It was due a problem with CO2 production due to Covid restrictions; is there still a problem?
shock

Have you got a problem where you are, Kali2?
Have people been panic buying again?

Katek Mon 09-Aug-21 23:01:56

This reminds me of the supposed ‘overheard in Waitrose’ sayings……’My god, I don’t believe this - there’s no samphire!’

Callistemon Mon 09-Aug-21 22:58:28

None here that we noticed last Friday.

Here it’s been cereals, with no Shreddies for the last two weeks for example
You mean you don’t knit your own, Casdon?
Can’t stand a shop Shreddie myself grin .

Choking on my evening bowl of gluten free cornflakes here!!

Not so far in East Sussex. Shelves not as full as usual but have managed to get most of what we need.

Tbh Meryl I could only find one brand of pesto in my tiny local Co-op ! ?

Your Coop is well posh, Lemongrove, selling any type of pesto at all! grin

lemongrove Mon 09-Aug-21 22:45:24

Meryl I am so sorry, how will you manage at your next dinner party?
Order in large quantities whenever you can ( top tip!)

Casdon Mon 09-Aug-21 22:43:17

This is why there aren’t shortages in Waitrose MawBe. They know how to look after their staff.

Supply problems are down to HGV driver shortages, not a lack of food availability as I understand it, so it does depend which supermarket you use and where you live.

Zoejory Mon 09-Aug-21 22:39:36

No gaps here at all.

My daughter's in Scotland and all the shelves are full.

In fact the only place I've seen gaps in supermarkets is in the Daily Mail.

ASDA in Shoebury run out of Gojis berries. This is getting serious now ?

Polarbear2 Mon 09-Aug-21 22:38:33

Yes it’s been pretty bad in my local Coop. (Sheffield). Started two weeks ago. Last Friday they had no bread at all. Many aisles are empty with notices apologising. Freezers particularly bad. I’m told other supermarkets aren’t so bad ?‍♀️

Casdon Mon 09-Aug-21 22:38:01

You’re right Ellee, when you look for specific things you notice the gaps.

Here it’s been cereals, with no Shreddies for the last two weeks for example. Even worse, no tonic water for the gin. I tried ordering it with a Sainsburys delivery, and they had none either, so they substituted it with dry ginger, gin and dry ginger not being a favoured combination in this house.

silverlining48 Mon 09-Aug-21 22:37:24

Empty shelves in Asda and Sainsbury’s in Kent/ outer London borders .

baubles Mon 09-Aug-21 22:35:32

Sainsbury’s had no cornflakes or dried red lentils yesterday, I got the last packet of both in our small local
Co-op.

I did notice lots of gaps in Sainsbury’s shelves but didn’t register what was missing.

valdali Mon 09-Aug-21 22:34:36

Couple of weeks ago, shopping for chicken recipe, in local large Tesco - chicken aisles bare. Try frozen? 90% of freezers empty. Prawns instead? No fish / seafood. Saved by my fridge-freezer. This week though shops are pretty well-stocked.

MawBe Mon 09-Aug-21 22:33:46

Waitrose is fine (as was my last Ocado internet shop) so all good here.
Depends where you are OP.

growstuff Mon 09-Aug-21 22:32:19

Still shortages of cat food - mainly pouches.

MawBe Mon 09-Aug-21 22:32:19

Marydoll

An empty beer aisle in Sainsbury's on Friday!

???Got there before you- ha ha!
