My smoothie…

My smoothie… I have been making this now for a few weeks since I’ve got my new nutribullit , it has blueberries, bananas, apple, spinach, kiwi fruit mixed seeds and nuts and protein powder and just tap water,it comes out quite thick but I find it absolutely delicious and very filling. Will try and upload some photos but the way the site has been lately that is not necessarily going to work… I usually add frozen raspberries as well but have found them impossible to find out my local Tesco for a good few weeks now..
It worked!! ?????

Our smoothie this morning was orange juice, spinach, banana and some omega rich seeds.

We've had our Bullet for years now and it's a bit the worse for wear ?

It's also good for making some sandwich fillings from cold chicken, mayo, peppers, etc. We usually make it quite smooth and make toasties.

Shinamae can I ask what protein powder you use, please?

How do you clean the blade part? I rinse mine and leave it soaking in some hot water for a while. But I never feel that it’s properly clean. I use HUEL banana flavour protein powder in mine. And I’ve just bought some carob powder so I get a bit of a chocolate fix, too.

Yum, Shinamae. I'd love some.

How do you clean the blade part?

I rinse the lid, stick a tiny bit of washing up liquid in and half fill with water and turn in on for a couple of minutes, then rinse.

That’s the way I do it as well..

This is my protein powder and it does taste delicious but I didn’t buy this, my son bought it but since he is now working he doesn’t go to the gym so much so he has given it to his mum ? working on a building site hence that’s quite a workout in itself..

Then there’s this….

Shinamae Sat 20-Nov-21 18:24:44

Do you have these instead of breakfast? Is this a good mix for a diet? Just cleared a cupboard and about to give a smoothie maker to Cancer Research shop but I need to lose a stone for an op so might keep it and try your recipes.

I don’t actually eat breakfast as I am never hungry in the morning, I make up the smoothie everyday, keep it in the fridge and dip into it throughout the day. I know people will say there is quite a lot of sugar in fruit but I prefer that sugar to the other variety, for instance what is added to a lot of yoghurts and mousses Which I used to be very fond of and would eat 2 or 3 at a time… and I do find this smoothie very filling, sometimes I will drink half of it for lunch and then don’t eat again until my evening meal at about seven..

Love my smoothies. Usually instead of any other breakfast fare.
Usually make 2 days at a time.
Mine have chia seeds (they bulk up & stop hunger)
Fresh ginger (because I love it, but it's also anti-inflammatory, good for digestion etc)
Turmeric - 2 tsp (joints),
Celery (ditto)
Aldi/ Lidl seed & nut mix has ground flax seeds etc. for smoothies - sooo convenient!
Whatever fruit is around, but always bananas, a little fruit juice, live yogurt.
Spinach is great - it just seems to take some of the sweetness out and is a a good source of antioxidants & vitamins.

Alternatively, peanut butter & coffee smoothie with cinnamon.

Basically, it's what ever you fancy.
Guess they could help with weight loss - no bread, processed sugar and some of the above are used to help with losing weight.

“ Turmeric - 2 tsp (joints),”. What does the joints bit mean ?

Ro60 Sun 21-Nov-21 10:10:58

Lucca Tumeric helps with the aches in my fingers - possibly a touch of arthritis.

MayBee70 Sun 21-Nov-21 11:00:38

I make my turmeric into golden paste and add it to my smoothies. I use a lot of cinnamon but read that I should buy Ceylon cinnamon as too much of other kinds of cinnamon is bad for you. I don’t know if it helps my arthritis or not but I don’t want to stop using it.

Elaine1 do a search on smoothies and there are literally hundreds of recipes on the web. Like Shinamae I often use them as meal replacements for breakfast or lunch if I don't have much appetite and can't decide on what to eat. Although they are usually a snack ?

If they are going to be meal replacements they need to have a good macronutrient profile i.e protein, good fats, vitamins, minerals. They're an excellent way of getting vitamins and minerals by adding in seeds, veg, eggs and fruit and you can make sure there is plenty of protein by using plant milks (soy/almond/oat) as a base instead of fruit juice. Eggs and seeds also add protein. (You don't need to buy protein powder unless you want to - it can get expensive.) Don't add too much fruit or they'll be heavy on sugar. Spinach is good to put in because the taste disappears behind stronger flavours like banana, chocolate, cinnamon, etc.

Don’t do what I did and absentmindedly add a chopped onion!
Horrible ?

Oh I see !! You mean (good for joints) thanks,

Amberone Sun 21-Nov-21 14:47:33

I also use my Bullet for making pancake batter quickly, and whizzing up soups ready for heating up.

Ro60 Sun 21-Nov-21 15:48:36

Lucca Sorry for the confusion ?

Hollysteers ? - Or leave the lid off & press Go!
