So today I went online to buy a litter picking stick from Amazon.
We lost our little dog Nell on Saturday so I thought I would exercise and do some good.

I didn’t buy the litter picker……I bought an air frying slow cooking, sous viding, dehydrating yoghurt making instant pot.

It’s basically like having Chitty chitty bang bang in the kitchen.

Please someone tell me I won’t regret it.

Sago, I'm sorry you've lost your little dog. They leave such an empty void.

Your 'looking down' with hot food reminded me of our much loved mongrel, 40 odd years ago, who always slept at the bottom of the stairs. We had to let her go (at 18 years old) when her heart was failing.

Having developed a habit of jumping the last (or first) few steps - it took about a year for us to revert to normal stair climbing or descending!

I just love my instant pot and air fryer. Now that I'm used to them - and having tried out many new recipes - the main oven rarely gets used.

Mummer I will! However she was literally under my feet whenever I cooked, her senility caused an obsession with food, it was actually quite dangerous, how I never fell over her is a miracle!
So it’s ingrained in me now to always look down whenever I’m handling hot food,it’s so sad not to see her there.

I bought an air fryer on impulse about five years ago and regretted it instantly BUT! once I started using it and realised just how fantastic it actually is I've since replaced with an upgrade and never looked back!we lost our little Ozzie jack Russell last October and haven't been OUT ONCE in the morning since, much to my shame after 13.5 year's of rain hail or shine walking! We fill our emotional voids with some odd things, enjoy your fryer contraption and think of your little pal whenever you use it! xx

My first thought was that you had bought a pot noodle!?

Love my instant pot, it’s great for soups, stews etc.Today I made marmalade in it, so much quicker than the old way of boiling it on the stove top.

Ahh I’m so sorry to hear about your beloved doggie friend. It’s such a rotten thing to go through. Sounds like you loved her very much. ???. I know nothing at all about the IP you bought. Never even heard of it ? but I hope you have fun creating some tasty recipes with it. X.

You won’t regret it, mine was best £99 I’ve spent. Such quick soup, stews, pressure cooking. Throw it all in and push a button. Enjoy.

Scottsmum It’s a pressure cooker that will sauté, air fry, bake, grill, steam, sous vide!
It’s been a great distraction so far! It also means I am going to try new recipes and also hopefully save on our gas and electric bills.
Silvertwigs Thank you, we went to the vets today and took them some chocolates, they dealt with it in such a compassionate manner.
I will miss her so much, we couldn’t take her on our long hikes anymore as she was too old but I will miss our daily local walks so I may yet buy the litter picker and do some good whilst walking!

Silvertwigs Wed 09-Feb-22 17:28:46

I’m pretty sure you’ll have no regrets Sago.
Plus it will be a fab memorial to little Nell. Feeling your loss and pain ??

Scotsmum Wed 09-Feb-22 16:49:40

So sorry to hear of your loss, it's now 10 months since we lost our beloved greyhound and she is still a huge missflowers

May I ask an idiot question? Is this an electric pressure cooker? And should I consider replacing my Halogen countertop oven with one, or are they different things?

Esmay Wed 09-Feb-22 16:37:04

So sorry for your loss .
Why not try something new -anything to distract you .

Yesterday I found a sixties fondu set which I've had for about 25 years and never used !
So maybe we'll have a fondu party !

The Mary Berry hot mustard beef is in there now.
It normally takes around 3 hours in the oven so if this is a success being sautéed then pressure cooked for 40 minutes I will be thrilled.
I’ve watched loads of You Tube videos so I’m fairly confident.
????

My kids have them and love them, good luck should be fun

We were given one for Christmas. I was a bit scared of it at first, but I have used it a couple of times and it's fine. I made pork chilli (one of the few things my 9 year old granddaughter will eat) and it was quick and easy. I also made a lamb shank curry and the meat was so tender, after a quick saute of the onions and spices and browning the meat, then pressure cooking for 40 minutes. I am going to do pulled pork next.

Haven't used the air fryer function yet but I am going to try making chips. I am in an Instant Pot group on Facebook and they have lots of advice, plus there are loads of recipes online. I don't know if I will use the sous vide but I will definitely try the slow cooker function.

I have a Ninja Foodi, it is the absolute best for doing crispy bacon. Streaky gives great flavour, GRILL defaults to 240 degrees for 10 minutes. Check after 8 minutes. Yummy.

annab275 Wed 09-Feb-22 12:45:25

I have an instant pot and use it every day to make fresh soup, cook rice in five minutes, cook soaked beans in 15 mins and make veg chillis etc. I wouldn’t be without it.

Sago I'm sorry about your wee dog Nell passing.
Your impulse buy, good treating yourself, but Mr Google will have to enlighten me about what you have purchased...

Nannashirlz Wed 09-Feb-22 12:37:18

Sorry about losing your family member, I lost two girls within months of each other and then both my sons wife’s fell pregnant within months of each other. Both had daughters so the two dogs I lost were replaced by two granddaughters. And I’ve also got a ninja foodie and it’s brilliant I’ve done everything from steam to dehydration to air fry loved it that much I got a ninja soup/ blender soup in 20 mins or and ice cream and smoothie for when grandkids visit. Also much cheaper on your electric bill I’ve not used my oven since lol

kathyd Wed 09-Feb-22 12:36:33

CleoPanda I bought both of mine from the Instant Pot site.

Spec1alk Wed 09-Feb-22 12:36:22

That sounds great! My OH bought a slightly less healthy kitchen tool last night- a sausage roll making machine from Aldi- I despair!!

kathyd Wed 09-Feb-22 12:35:01

I have an IP and a Vortex and use them most of the time. I haven't used the oven since Christmas 2020 and can't remember the last time I used the hob. I steam green veg everydy in the microwave.

CleoPanda Wed 09-Feb-22 12:21:53

Wonderful purchase other than the buying from Amazon part!

Deedaa Wed 09-Feb-22 12:19:51

I think they look really good but I just haven't got room in my kitchen. DD has got one but I haven't asked her yet how she's getting on with it (she's a scientist, it should be easy? hmm )

Skye17 Wed 09-Feb-22 12:19:39

So sorry you lost your dog.

I have an Instant Pot and love it. I doubt you’ll regret the purchase.

This book is recommended by people in the Instant Pot UK Community Facebook group.

The group has some helpful information and recipes (if you are on Facebook).

I bought a Ninja 7 in 1 about a year ago. I use it all the time, and have managed to get rid of a few appliances it was intended to replace. Don’t be afraid of it; signup for a couple of Facebook pages covering your appliance for tips and ideas, and have some fun
