I’ve made an impulse purchase and bought an instant pot because Im feeling fed up?

So today I went online to buy a litter picking stick from Amazon.
We lost our little dog Nell on Saturday so I thought I would exercise and do some good.

I didn’t buy the litter picker……I bought an air frying slow cooking, sous viding, dehydrating yoghurt making instant pot.

It’s basically like having Chitty chitty bang bang in the kitchen.

Please someone tell me I won’t regret it.

Enjoy it. I read fun things of them. Sometimes impulse meets a need. Hope this proves to be true for you especially with your recent sad loss. ?

What is ‘sous viding’ ? I am intrigued …

Sago Mon 07-Feb-22 20:12:38

CrazyH Sous vide cooking is characterized by low-temperature cooking, a longer period of cooking than conventional cooking, a container (such as a plastic bag) that separates the food from its heating environment, and pressurized enclosure using full or partial vacuum.

Or in other words put in a plastic pouch in a warm bath at a constant temperature.

You vacuum seal the meat and cook it in warm water at a certain temperature. I am told it gives excellent results but have neither done it nor tasted the results. Hopefully someone else can tell you more about it.

it sounds fab smile

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 20:17:54

They're supposed to be fabulous.
I inherited my girls brand new, still in the box one, but it had more controls than a spaceship.
I gave it fo somebody without ever using it.

Sago,
Awww I'm so sorry to hear about your dog.
I hope you're alright! xx

The other thing, I don't have a clue. Sounds very complicated, but I hope you enjoy cooking with it, and don't give yourself - or anyone else - food poisoning!!

I don't have an Instant Pot, but I do have a Ninja Foodi, which has many of the same functions, and I find it to be a very useful piece of kit in the kitchen. I love being able to make things like risotto, paella, stews, casseroles etc in a fraction of the time they would normally take. The air fryer function is also very good, and mine has a dehydrate function too, which came in very useful for making 'sundried' tomatoes with the glut of tomatoes we had last year. So don't be afraid of it - just get stuck in and have fun with your new toy!

I have an Instant Pot, and use it often. I do, however, wish I'd bought a Ninja Foodi instead, as the IP doesn't have an air fry function.

I can't justify getting another gadget that does pretty much exactly what the IP does, and both are fairly large when it comes to storage.

You probably needed something cheer you up after the loss of your girl. Hope you're not feeling too bad. Your new purchase sounds great smile

Sago Mon 07-Feb-22 20:47:25

The new IP has an air fry function.

I thought you’d bought a ‘PotNoodle’ because you were fed up of cooking!
???

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 21:12:11

Have you got a first meal in mind, sago?
A christening dish.

Sago Mon 07-Feb-22 21:30:52

Urmstongran How dare you suggest I would ever eat a pot noodle??
MissAdventure First meal may be crispy chicken wings or a beef casserole.

Me too.

Mind you, I'm no wiser but I am intrigued.

Callistemon21 Mon 07-Feb-22 23:05:41

Just took a look. Interesting, but I'm a bit concerned about buying gadgets that are cleverer than me.

MissAdventure Mon 07-Feb-22 23:07:14

Oh you've not got a toaster, then, I take it? 》-》 runs away....

Callistemon21 Mon 07-Feb-22 23:10:05

My new toaster is quite complicated, it's got different settings for bread, crumpets, fruit bread, bagels etc.
I can cope with that once I put my specs on.

I have two of these appliances. I love them!
