I used to be able to buy Sliced, frozen green beans, but for ages now they seem to have vanished.

All that I can get now are Whole green beans.

Frozen veg are a great standby, so like to have them in my freezer.

Has anyone got a clue as to why the Sliced ones are not available?

No idea Auntieflo try looking for Cornflour in my Tesco and you’ll be disappointed, they don’t even have a space on the shelf where it always lives. Staff members are non the wiser either.

Because the whole ones are French beans and the sliced ones are runner beans and it was a dreadful year for runner beans?

I’m only speculating because my runner beans this year were useless.. Usually I have to give them away to anyone who’ll take them😬

I’ve not managed to get the frozen sliced ones either. Using frozen whole green beans instead. Not sure why there’s a shortage though.

Lathyrus, it was a dreadful years for beans. We usually have loads but had a pitiful amount this year. Loads of tomatoes and chillis

The acorns are also HUGE this year

I was in Waitrose the other day and there were no frozen vegetables at all. I wanted sweetcorn but no joy.

I had so many tomatoes I think I gave myself potassium poisoning 😬 Peppers (not chilli ones) too which I’ve never been able to grow very well.

Beans and mange tout - disaster. I haven’t dug the parsnips and celeriac but I’m not hopeful about that either.

I made ratatouille of a sort. The squashes took over the garden🎃

JaneJudge Fri 04-Nov-22 19:27:37

We didn't do squash as I'm the only person who will eat it and I can't say it is my favourite grin

nadateturbe Fri 04-Nov-22 19:41:35

I'm missing them too.

Thanks Janejudge.

I love runner beans and really look forward to their season, but as others have said there just wasn’t any in our area. Then we were out on a day trip and stopped at a greengrocers and she had piles of them so we have been making the 55 min car journey every week to stock up.

crazyH Fri 04-Nov-22 20:27:33

Yes, I miss the frozen, sliced runner beans…

Jaxjacky Fri 04-Nov-22 20:27:51

Sainsbury have them www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/peas--beans---sweetcorn/sainsburys-british-sliced-green-beans-1kg
Mine at home were rubbish.

Would it be hijacking your post if I enquired where the Blackcurrants are these days. Blueberries seem to have taken their place. Whilst home grown Blueberries are quite nice, shop bought ones are often tasteless. I used to love making Beetroot and Blackcurrant relish but no more. 😢

Charleygirl5 Fri 04-Nov-22 21:06:12

Where I live blackcurrants were growing wild and delicious.

M0nica Fri 04-Nov-22 21:33:34

I agree, dreadful year for beans. I planted runner beans three times and they never even germinated.

Purpledaffodil Fri 04-Nov-22 21:36:01

I agree with posters who wondered if it was the very hot weather which affected runner beans BUT I had a very good late crop in September/October in W. London. Maybe the commercial growers just cut their losses and took them out?

Fleurpepper Fri 04-Nov-22 21:42:19

Maybe they were short of staff to plant them water them and pick them?
