Sunak says it’s down to personal choice if you eat cake in the office or not. A close aide says carrot cake is his favourite. Now that doesn’t have mock bream but cream cheese which is a more healthy option.

Makes me wonder how the human race has managed to survive for so long.

Although years ago I used to make a good prune and yogurt cake!
That should get things moving.

DD did some food shopping when she was here; she left some cans of organic chick peas in the cupboard which I've taken out, gazed at and put away again.

I need some recipes!

Chick peas: Falafel, hummus, mayonnaise, soups, stews, curries, on/in salads, roasted nibbles.

Oh. I've only seen it spoken of as the liquid from a can of chick peas. (much used in vegan recipes in the Guardian )

In shops, if cakes with cream aren’t on a refrigerated shelf then it’s fake cream, so easy to tell the difference.

Bringing cakes into the office is as harmful as passive smoking says the chairwoman of the Food Standard Agency. It could tempt colleagues to eat unhealthy foods. I guess mock cream and frosted icing cup cakes fit into that category.

I heard that on the car radio this morning and thought it was a load of tosh!

Firstly, smoking is not allowed in offices or public spaces for but when it was, people were forced to breathe in smoke from others' cigarettes.

Taking cakes into work occasionally, eg for someone's birthday, does not mean they are forced to eat them against their will.

Tempting is not the same as forcing. Whatever next!

AreWeThereYet Aerosol cream is mainly air, so as soon as it is in the open air it starts deflating. This means it contains far fewer calories than ordinary whipped double cream and you can have what looks a huge portion and it is neither too rich nor too caloriferous.

I use it a lot, but only put it on a dish just before I bring it to table, Usually we use it on indivdual cold sweets where everyone serves themselves.

You can’t beat real whipped cream in cakes. My favourite cake is a vanilla slice- delicious! In Spain, presumably because of the heat, they only use artificial cream -ugh. Not really keen on cupcakes with large swirls of butter icing either - too sickly.

I hate the artificial cream they use on fairy cakes. The squirty cream is preferable, any day.

I had some squirty cream on top of a hot chocolate drink last week after a swim. Sqirty cream is still not proper cream (though it may have real cream in it) but it is certainly an improvement on the squirty cream of 25-30 years ago.

On a trip to visit my brother in York, I drove us to Scarborough for an outing. We went to a cafe for a snack and I ordered a knickerbocker glory (or something of that nature). I asked the waitress if the cream on top was real cream. She said yes. But it was squirty cream and revolting. I spooned it off the top, plonked it in a saucer and said to bro: I should have asked if it was real, unadulterated cream! But, as he said, she wouldn't have understood what I meant.

Many, many years ago I used the spray cream on some individual trifles I had made. We had some friends coming for dinner and I took a lot of time making some boozy, strawberry trifles with madeira sponge, real custard, a topping of cream and chocolate flaked bits and when I put them in the fridge they looked lovely.

Four hours later I opened the fridge to take them out and the cream was gone. I'd never used it before (or since) and had no idea it would simply disappear in the fridge. We were all totally mystified and ended up crying with laughter at the little chocolate bits floating on the custard with the odd white blob.

And I have never even seen let alone eaten a Hershey Bar. I think of them as something out of WWII films with GI’s in them?

My GC having lived in the States and are hooked on American chocolate, when their Dad goes back that is all they ask for.
We were with them at Christmas they got their hands on a very expensive box of Chocolates from our local chocolatiers. The little so and so's had taken a bite out of loads and put them back.
They got told how naughty they had been and DD made their dad eat all the bitten ones for encouraging their obsession.
They won't do it again but my SIL did get some of the best.
