I recently found some brioche-type bread but sold in slices. They were quite big - filled my smallest frying pan. They also soaked up the egg quite well (see my post above re soak/not soak)
Each slice easily used up a whole egg, so I only ate one.
Grannywaffle70 - if you fry it in a generous amount of butter - slowly, for a good amount of time - on each side, you get it nice and crispy. Takes time, though.
The best summer pudding is made with brioche, JackyB, as long as the fruit isn't sweetened, or only a little if gooseberries are in the recipe.
