Just watched the above cookery program. I find it delightful, the bright colours, her enthusiasm for the food she cooks and of course the finished items. Anyone else enjoy this program?

Anyone who likes cooking with spices will get far more information and good recipes from Nisha Katona’s book, Spice Tree.

Nadiya relies far too heavily on Curry Powder which we all had to use in the sixties because there wasn’t anything else available.

I agree about the Cottage Pie and I don’t care if it served eight, there was way too much butter in the mash.

I’m sure I only counted six eggs on top! 🤣

I still have 2 little Indian cookery booklets by Madhur Jaffrey spotted with curry splodges, sticky fingers and pencil notes.

In the 70s there was a prog called Pebble Mill At One and she did a really good cookery spot and I sent off for the books.

As we lived in Leicester then we were able to buy all the spices in the many Asian shops. Still use them to this day despite having several other asian cookery books, I always go back to these.

I dislike the new head covering too, it is equivalent to long hair. I don`t like her recipes, so unhealthy and absolutely not for my palate

It’s all very clearly planned to keep people talking about her and keep her name in the headlines.

I have seen lots of her books in charity shops lately and that’s always a fair indicator of a person’s popularity (or not).

I see praise for this woman - mostly due to her use of spices. Well, that's no good whatsoever to all of us (and from chats it's a fair subset of the population) for whom spice usually = indigestion.

She put half a tub of cinnamon in the cottage pie meal.

I can’t get past that cake she made for the Queen …..

😂I know, it was awful.
Have watched a couple of episodes, but not for me! That mess of an Asian take on cottage pie, urrrrgh.🤢

I was baking for the freezer this afternoon and made a gf version of the Westmorland Pepper Cake that was featured on her programme.

Delicious!

Generally I’m not keen on her recipes as they’re so high in fat and sugar but I’ve made her paneer and chilli bread and was pleased it worked well with my usual gluten free recipe.

foxie48 Sun 15-Oct-23 19:18:02

I think she's lovely, I'll put her book on my Xmas list as I could use some help with spices!

Emerald888 Sun 15-Oct-23 17:34:17

There was a great curry recipe of hers in Daily Mail weekend magazine recently. My husband has made it three times in a month! Delicious . Tomato soup with spices and meat. Not sure if anything else but tasted great. Better than most supermarket jars of curry sauce.

Primrose53 Sun 15-Oct-23 16:47:58

I do like some of her savoury dishes though. I think she’s a better cook than baker actually.

The scarf scares me witless, too. Much preferred the old head covering. It is not just the gas flames, but dipping into food as well.

She has progressed a lot since that cake! Give credit where credits due.

But she had just won Bake Off, a national competition, when she made that cake! A programme that is not about cooking but baking.

We have a couple of cake makers in our village and their creations are superb.

If that was the best she could do for the Queen then I think it’s a poor show. She knew millions would see it and comment and most people thought it was poor.

maybe the cake had been in an accident that wasn't its fault

She seems very nice but I will never forget the cake she made for the Queen’s birthday - it was just awful and leaning sideways. The Queen looked at it and you could see she didn’t know what to say. It was just plain purple and gold and poorly presented to be honest.

When you think of all the fantastic cakes the Queen has been presented with over the years and she is confronted with a lob sided creation. 🤣

Cagsy Sun 15-Oct-23 12:19:04

I do like her but as so many of her recipes have nuts or coconut in them I rarely use them, but do love her enthusiasm.
Is anyone like me though and fear that the long scarf dangling near the gas flame is a real fire hazard?

JaneJudge Sun 15-Oct-23 12:14:49

She seems such a genuine person

philoheart Sun 15-Oct-23 12:12:09

I've really enjoyed this series. Hubby didn't use spices in his cooking before watching Nadia. His food is so much tastier now he's dropped his silly prejudices about spice.

Childofthe60s Sun 15-Oct-23 12:02:37

BBC Good Food have a 6 months for 99p offer on their app, and Nadia's App Takeover is happening at the moment. I've saved so many of her recipes, it will take me a while to work through them.

57VRS Sun 15-Oct-23 11:52:44

I absolutely love Nadya! She’s the best thing to come out of Bake Off!! Watched her programme last night and am thinking of getting the accompanying book. Just love her use of spices.

twiglet77 Sun 15-Oct-23 11:41:19

She’s a super presenter, does anyone have her books?
