Children all over the UK will be devastated - as am I - I don’t think!
But I am struggling to contain my disappointment 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shoppers are facing a broccoli shortage after supermarket supplies were hit by wet weather, growers have warned
Broccoli stocks have fallen over the last month after poor weather impacted yields and farmers planted less because of financial pressures.
Martin Tate, commercial director at Lincolnshire Field Products and chairman of the Brassica Growers Association (BGA), said: “We had a good start to the year, and the expectation was where we needed it to be to satisfy all the orders in June, July, August and September
Then we’ve had, according to our records which go back 53 years, the second wettest October
We would normally expect to harvest broccoli in the UK up until the middle of November but most growers found themselves struggling in the last week or two of October
Mr Tate added that many British growers had scaled back production because of cash strains
As long as our Christmas sprouts are safe - which vegetable would you miss?

Oh no!
I love broccoli - all sorts, especially purple sprouting - but even calabrese which is always (rather annoyingly) called broccoli now 😬.

I would miss all vegetables as I'm vegetarian and can't think of any I don't like.

My kids and 4 of my 5 GC love any veg, broccoli is a particular favourite of 1 GD who likes it mixed into macaroni cheese and made into soup.GD4 wont touch any veg ,mainly because her mum doesn't each veg and always says loudly at dinner " no veg for me"I'm working on it!

I have broccoli most days and apart from broad beans I would not like to do without any other vegetables.

SueDonim Tue 07-Nov-23 19:31:05

I like pretty much all veg, although I wouldn’t miss potatoes if they were off the menu.

Callistemon21 Tue 07-Nov-23 19:32:07

Oh no, I'm discombobulated now.
Broccoli is the mainstay of our greens!

SueDonim

I like pretty much all veg, although I wouldn’t miss potatoes if they were off the menu.

I'd miss potatoes too, I remember when there was a problem with potatoes in the 1950s or 60s and we got a slice of white bread with our school dinners instead of potatoes.

We will have to eat cabbage. I love cabbage but my DH doesn’t so we hardly ever have it.

Juliet27 Tue 07-Nov-23 20:20:08

My dog will be upset - he loves the stalks.

BlueBelle Tue 07-Nov-23 20:22:39

No I wont miss it don’t much like it although I don’t eat meat or fish I m not very keen on green veg apart from peas and beans

lixy Tue 07-Nov-23 20:28:34

I will miss broccoli and so will all the GCn - even our 18 month old eats broccoli by the handful.

I wouldn't miss aubergines at all. I've tried so hard to use them in various recipes but haven't found one I like yet so usually leave them out now.

Hetty58 Tue 07-Nov-23 20:29:43

What? No broccoli? There's plenty of the lovely purple sprouting sort around here - so it might be worth freezing some. I do like broccoli and potato mash (as you can eat the stalks too) so I think I'll survive.

PamelaJ1, like my sister, tends to eat what her husband likes. I never did that, always had what I prefer - with both husbands. If they wanted something else, they could cook it.

Decidedly not sprouts. grin

We love broccoli, if shortage occurs we'll miss it.

My DGS eats lots of broccoli. He calls them trees. I don't think cauliflower would quite be the same.

TillyTrotter Tue 07-Nov-23 20:36:33

It’s probably on my list of least favourite vegetables. 🥦
I prefer cabbage. 🥬

BlueBelle Tue 07-Nov-23 20:37:21

What would I miss
Potatoes, Sweet potatoes, Leeks, courgettes, peas, beans tomato’s, onions, cauliflower, sweetcorn …..but greens nah

Blossoming Tue 07-Nov-23 20:52:39

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 07-Nov-23 21:04:45

Oh dear. My youngest grandchild, aged six months, has just started on food with ( of course?!) broccoli....

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 07-Nov-23 22:43:39

I love all veg, especially green veg. There’s plenty of broccoli round here - I bought some lovely purple sprouting today.

Callistemon21 Tue 07-Nov-23 23:04:38

It was out of stock when I did an online order for the end of the month but, of course, it might be in stock again by then.

In the meantime I'll sharpen my elbows and prepare for the fray at the veg counter 🥦

ginny Tue 07-Nov-23 23:16:26

Eat cabbage and die as they say! Not a big thing to worry about these days.
