Thanks Choughdancer I will try out the Tesco "halloumi"

choughdancer Sat 11-Nov-23 17:34:48

I like the Tesco halloumi type cheese. I either just brown cubes of it in a frying pan, or wrap it in vine leaves first. I also like Violife's Greek style, Le Ronde and the Cathedral one Madgran mentions. And another vote for Flora plant based butter... yum!

I think if people are eating dairy cheese and then try vegan cheeses they will probably dislike them. I didn't try them until I'd been vegan for a while, so liked them straight away.

I think it's really good ceejayjau. Also a good website is *HonestlyTasty ..amazing selection of "cheeses" And Cathedral vegan mature cheddar is the best ..available in large Sainsburys!

If you are interested Flora plant based butter is great too ...in dairy aisles in Sainsburys. And Oatly Creme Fraiche is great too!

Yes, DH too.

I am largely vegetarian and do eat a lot of vegan! Loads of easy vegan recipes around and steadily moving more and more towards that. Vegan cheeses are MASSIVELY improved including a "Blue Cheese" available in Holland & Barrett which is delicious!

The vegans are frankly a pain. Everything you serve them must be made separately and differently. Some vegans live off ultra processed junk full of ingredients you’ve never heard of.

Bit of a generalisation!

In the "old days" being vegan was definitely seen as "cranky". I know in the mid 80s that's how we were seen.

There was no processed food for vegans then - except maybe soya milk and so on. Definitely nothing like today.
Being vegan in the 80s was a bit like being vegetarian in the 60/70s!

I did Veganuary a couple of years ago and couldn’t stop talking about it! 🤣

Much of my family, including me, is vegetarian. No problems ever in catering or eating out.

I’d be vegan if I could live without cheese but life’s much easier as a vegetarian.

We eat no junk whatsoever. Every bite of food we eat is made at home from real ingredients. I've no idea why you falsely assume vegans eat junk full of ultra processed unknown ingredients.

I'm a vegetarian and sometime vegan. I've been vegetarian for forty years and it is so much easier to eat out now than it was back then.

We are vegetarian.DGS2 has a vegan diet because of allergies. He is now four and it is easy to cater for him as so many plant alternatives for dairy foods.Like others I am not keen on the vegan cheese although DH and DGS love it!

ceejayjay Fri 10-Nov-23 06:43:53

Lovely to see so many fellow vegans.

Just a quick mention about vegans being a pain. All I’m doing is trying to protect other sentiment beings from going through pain. It’s coming from a place of absolute love <3

Theexwife Thu 09-Nov-23 18:09:43

No, I cannot resist cheese and have not found an alternative.

NotSpaghetti Thu 09-Nov-23 17:52:35

You don't have to eat junk whether you are vegan or not.
Plenty of omnivores eat junk!

Norah Thu 09-Nov-23 17:45:29

Yes, my husband and I are vegan.

choughdancer Thu 09-Nov-23 17:44:25

I'm a vegan.

A rude and unnecessary response from you watermeadow- live and let live please! I am a meat eater but would never say vegetarians ' were frankly a pain' Nor would I be happy if the same remark was directed at me !

Me too

wetflannel Tue 07-Nov-23 20:03:57

Yes me a fully fledged vegan.

NotSpaghetti Tue 07-Nov-23 19:05:11

No, but we do "eat vegan" at least half the week.

The family was vegetarian but became vegan for some years after the Chernobyl disaster.
Now we are back "on" dairy if it's organic.
