What is for brunch or lunch ?

28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

I did a ham, cheese, tomato and spring onion toastie after taking the dog a walk
is it ACTUALLY JULY?

Pitta spread with mayonnaise, stuffed with poached salmon, mini tomatoes and cucumber here.
With all the talk about alcohol, I’d really like a shot of Baileys Chocolate Luxe, but . . .
I guess it’ll just have to be a mug of Assam tea.

Your “brunch” sounds ideal and healthy Jaxjacky.
However, few restaurants or private households serve a small glass of wine which is part of the general alcohol (and obesity) problem suffered by some. We all know the size of modern wine glasses - even half full!
A standard 175ml glass of wine, classified as medium-strength,contains approximately 2.3 units of alcohol. Exceeding six glasses of wine of this size per week would surpass the low-risk drinking recommendation set by the UK Chief Medical Officer (CMO), which advises consuming less than 14 units weekly
I’m not being “holier than thou” I enjoy a drink as much as the next person, but calories and units of alcohol are not our friend!

Jaxjacky Tue 09-Jul-24 11:45:09

One small glass is 1.5 units Maw recommendation is 14 or under per week.
Anyway, brunch today is leftover veg, carrots broccoli and peas, followed by banana, strawberries and blueberries with crème fraîche.

Any Dr would be horrified if I had wine everyday as it would take me well over the recommended alcohol unit allowance for women. Not to mention giving your liver a break!
Give your liver a regular break and have 2 to 3 alcohol free days each week – try to have them all in a row (NHS guidelines)
So Pitta bread stuffed with smoked humous, chopped cherry tomatoes and spring onions and a little salad and a coffee after for me.

No idea.

Jaxjacky Tue 09-Jul-24 08:54:05

I don’t in this country, particularly as I now eat a usual breakfast at lunchtime, 16/8 fasting, but when we lived in Françe it wasn’t unusual.

Lunch will be non existent today - no time!

Tea will probably be creamy sausage sauce with pasta. Or a takeaway as I have a very busy day.

Tuesday.
July 9th, 2024 ..

Lunch today shall be:

The main: Roast chicken with a Dijon mustard sauce.

The Starter: A light version of a Caear Salad without chicken.

Wine: A Rosé Prosecco.

Dessert: Fruits with 3 French cheeses.

In Spain, our main meal of the day is: 14.00 ..

Dinner: Is always very light and normally is a tapa or 2 shared.

Even a three course lunch would make me 😴!

Callistemon213 Mon 08-Jul-24 22:42:47

I'm deprived too.
In fact I'd be 😴 in the afternoon if I had wine at lunch-time.

RosiesMaw Mon 08-Jul-24 20:47:59

I must be missing out Jaxjacky because I certainly do not have a glass of wine with lunch every day!
Is anybody else similarly deprived?
(I don’t even have a glass of wine in the evening, maybe a wee dram when it’s as cold as this, but drinking every day would pile on the pounds on and (sadly) probably be frowned upon! )

PS How do you get any work done, OP if you have wine every day at lunch/brunch? 🍷🍷🍷

I’m pretty sure it’s only one glass, not unusual.

Very common to sip a wine through a 2 course lunch ..

Callistemon213 Mon 08-Jul-24 20:19:37

Mushroom omelette.
A yogurt.

Water.

That sounds so boring 😃

The reason I asked do you have a YouTube channel is because you posted a photo where you said it had been made from scratch.
As the same photo is on YouTube I wanted confirmation or not that you did or did not have a Chanel.

A group of Italian Gastronomic Students and myself prepare the focaccia approx. 10 years ago in Italy.

They may have put it on a you tube. I was not aware as it is at least a decade ago.

I only have a digital PDF magazine in Spanish & French on that focuses on interviews, enology, travel & trade fairs ..

Lunch today will be sausages with scrambled eggs on toast.

Tea will be cold roast pork from yesterday with fried potatoes, onions and left over carrots. Mine will have loads of onions pickled in balsamic with it while DH will have tomato and chilli pickle (all bought in)

I have made cheese and chilli scones to have with this afternoon's brew.

Banana sandwiches. Mmmmm.

Banana is good for you, isn't it?
I didn't feel like anything else.

And the skins are good for the garden.

I never remember that petra!
