What is for brunch or lunch ?

28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Chicken is in the slow cooker with onion, garlic, thyme and white wine.
It’ll be served later with small potatoes, cauliflower, carrots and mange tout.

Oh, I've never heard of food blogs.

I do know some people have sites where they put their recipes online; if you look for an interesting recipe you have to trawl through pages about their life, how they acquired the ingredients from a sun-kissed orchard in Sicily, a quaint market in Croatia, a spices shop in Marrakech and I switch off. All I want is a recipe and a list of ingredients I can buy in Waitrose.

Cattery Girl,

I do not have a Blog or write recipes.

I am a journalist and have my own French & Spanish Magazine in PDF Digital Format in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin and San Francisco, California.

The articles do not contain gastronomic subjects.

It is focused on tradefairs and the publication contains photographic essays from photographers, travel, enology and interviews.

It is not a blog.

If you do not like my posts, do not read them ! Very simple.

SCROLL BY. Be pleasant ..

Why do you think people on here are writing blogs? I have so many food blogs but wouldn’t consider using them on here.

So is that what you are writing @ FrenchGal etc?

^We used grapeleaves (jars) from a Greek retailer^

Vine leaves?
DD used to use those, from a jar.

Our grapevines are only just budding, RosiesMaw and I've never used our fresh ones. I suppose they're safe to use?

Oh I used to enjoy making stuffed vine leaves (Dolmades?) back in the day. Jars from Sainsbugs of course.
I just didn’t make the connection with grape leaves (duh!) as my grapes never come with leaves when I buy them! gringrin 🍇 🍇

^Today, like the Greels, I have embarked on preparing Prawns in Grape Leaves .. which I am serving with tzatziki, Greek yogurt, fresh parsley, peeled cucumber and garlic combined to create a thick dip^
“Greeks?” - “Greeks?”
As my grapevine is not yet in leaf, I’m on the Heinz Cream of Tomato with warm toast.
(Chucking it down and bliddy freezing out!)

Yes, typing error. It is "like the Greeks" ..

Was lovely. My husband and I truly enjoyed ..

We used grapeleaves (jars) from a Greek retailer.

Turned out truly lovely.

Thursday - the 2nd of May 2024 ..

Today was a regional holiday, Madrid Day, so we decided to have a simple lunch at home.

A tri color salad and grilled salmon (the back end, called colas which is the flat thick back end) served with a dill dressing served separately in a bowl on the table.

Dessert was home made lemon Bizcocho served with fresh blueberries and a glass of Albariño, Fillaboa from Cambados, Galicia.

Sunday - 28 / 04 / 2024 ..

Today lunch was a simple yet amazingly exceptional Seafood Paella prepared with Fallera Valencian Rice, prawns, mussels, squid, red bell, saffron threads and green peas.

Dessert was a simple bowl of fresh blueberries and strawberries ..

The wine we enjoy most with a seafood Paella is a good Rosé from Julian Chivite - Navarra.

Saturday. 27 / 04 / 2024 ..

Today my husband and I went for Pizza for lunch as we spent the day shopping .. We started at 5 centig degrees and windy and then the sun came out and then "ice balls" (granizos) and a downpour ! Crazy highly variable weather.

Finally we the storm passed over and:

We love The Fratelli Brothers Pizza .. 2 Italian brothers who create amazing Pizza.

This evening, home sweet home with a good film and homemade fajitas with strips of beef ..

Have a nice weekend.

Callistemon21 Thu 25-Apr-24 19:42:11

Ps we went out with friends, I didn't cook anything 🙂

Norah Thu 25-Apr-24 17:34:21

We're not fancy. Just tomato soup (I found last summer frozen tomatoes to use), Ciabatta croutons (because I made some Ciabatta at the weekend that had to be used up), cabbage salad and fruit.

Why does nobody seem to have something simple like egg on toast or baked beans

Oh but they do I am sure!
But it's hard to "compete" with the exotic meals- often in restaurants- virtue signalled by some posters gringringrin
I just sigh and think "Whatever"
(It was a pitta with hummus and chopped tomato and cucumber here today )

Gwylit & RosieMaw:

Do remember, that in Spain, we eat our "main meal" for Lunch between 13.00 and 15.00.

Our normal dinner would be a tapa or 2 with wine or beer or a beverage of choice.

21.00 More or less.

I work at least 3 days a week remote and therefore, I enjoy cooking for my husband .. To steam mussels is very simple and to oven bake chicken - a toddler can do .. Nothing difficult.

We enjoy eggs benedict or a French Omelette or a Spanish Omelette (Tortilla Española) but not for lunch ..

Nice Thursday wishes.
