What is for brunch or lunch ?

28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Why does nobody seem to have something simple like egg on toast or baked beans

Oh but they do I am sure!
But it's hard to "compete" with the exotic meals- often in restaurants- virtue signalled by some posters gringringrin
I just sigh and think "Whatever"
(It was a pitta with hummus and chopped tomato and cucumber here today )

24 / 04 / 2024 ..

Today, I am spending the entire morning (10am - 14.00) at IFEMA Convention Centre, Madrid Capital. I am attending the SALON GOURMETS 37th Anniversary Trade Fair.

Enjoying the Cheese Tunnel filled with cheeses from Switzerland, Great Britian, Spain of course, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Greece amongst others.

The wine selections are above average and quite a lovely pairing with the cheeses.

My husband is having a team lunch and shall not be home until 17.00 ..

Have a wonderful day.

I shall be cooking a vegetable stew of sorts tomorrow, centred around a northern British pea, the carlin. Oyster mushrooms and freshnspring greens will also feature. In a nod towards the Iberian peninsula however, I shall be adding some pimenton to the base.

Sunday Lunch ..

A small side salad of field greens (rocket) and assorted kress leaves, oak and bibb lettuces and baby spinach leaves with cherry tomatoes and a vinaigrette of red wine vinegar and Extra virgin olive oil. Delicate with a balanced blend of fresh organic greens which enables the contrasting leaves to shine through.

Frenchgalinspain:

I buy cardoons from a small organic farmer here in the far south west. I used a Cornish cheddar. As is almost always the case, all of my ingredients are sourced locally and mostly organic.

Marmin:

Thank you for your message.

Yes, we also purchase ecological / organic products ..

Shall have to try cardoons au gratin with a cheddar.

We have an excellent cheese retailer called Poncelet and they have an exemplary array of British Cheddars. And they provide tastings too !!

Have a lovely weekend.

Thursday:

11 / 04 / 2024.

Today was tortelli ( similar tortellini however, smaller) stuffed with spinach and ricotta - by: Italian Company Rana.

I prepared a simple (by scratch) tomato & basil (all fresh)
sauce topped with a 36 month old Parmesano grated.

This evening we shall go to our corner bar to meet up with long time dear friends, for tapas !!

Cardoon gratin. Green salad with a mango vinegar dressing.
Prune juice to drink.

Honestly.

Marmin,

Cardoon gratin, sounds wonderful.

Which cheese you you use ?

I love Cardoon though tedious and labourious to peel stalks.

It grows wild in Navarra & La Rioja. It is quite popular during Late November through February. It is also sold in Jars.

I make an an amazing soup with it during the Week of the Epiphany.

Have a lovely evening.
