What is for brunch or lunch ?

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

08 / 04 / 2024 .. Monday.

Today had alot of errands Downtown and stopped at The Food Hall of Galería Canalejas on Calle Alcalá 12.

Had a lovely paella for one, from a lovely Galician Chef Rubén Arnanz who also works at Saint James, a traditional Paella Restaurant.

This is a 400.000 m2 food hall featuring 12 different restaurants, including Japanese, Mexican, Paellas, Dim Sim, Fusion and also Vegetarian.

A nice place to stop as it was very close to the bus stop and the weather looks quite threatening and it became very grey and windy.

07 / 04 / 2024 - Sunday.

This afternoon we had lovely freshly caught Perch (filets) baked with de-seeded & peeled cherry tomato, garlic, leek and fresh parsley, Provençal Herbs and a touch of grinded black peppercorns and a drizzle of white wine.

The starter was a simple salad of tri color greens with a home made Vinagrette.

Prosecco Rosé was the toast of the day ..

6th April / Saturday.

Today we are doing some retail therapy ! Needed a few new kitchen items .. So we had stopped for some fried calamari and a glass of wine.

We shall have a quiet dinner at home later.

Wednesday: 03 / 04 / 2024

Today lunch was a classic traditional Linguine with a from scratch tomato sauce with Fresh Basil and served with lightly fried courgette (zucchine)with a drizzle of lemon.

Nice evening wishes. We shall do a light tuna salad on a crusty loaf from the bakery.

Tuesday - 02 / 04 / 2024 ..

Today is quite a chilly, pearl grey hazy day.

Lunch: Preparing Tempura and a few veggies for the side dish.

For the salsa (dip) I use:
1 cup of dashi
1/3 cup of mirin or jerez seco ( Sherry)
2 tblsps of freshly grated fresh ginger

I employ 400 grams of cod or sea bass or perch, 10 large prawns, 1 large red bell pepper, 4 white cap mushrooms, 8 wide green beans.

I dip in 2 yolks, 200 ml. ice water and 1 cup of tempura flour or all purpose.

Dessert: Was at the bakery this morning and picked up a small blueberry cheesecake ..

Wine: I picked up a bottle of Prosecco Rosé from Frexinet which produces in Veneto, Italia.

Full Easter lunch today
Roast Welsh lamb, Carrots, broccoli, roast potatoes and dauphinois, and roast parsnips.Creamed spinach, mint sauce and gravy. For pudding, home made fig and frangipani tart with cream and a raspberry roulade. That was enough, but we did have a cup of tea with a slice of my Simnel cake, later on

Easter Sunday Lunch .. 31 / 03 / 2024 ..

We had 4 guests + us.

Started with a very beautiful salad with fennel, radicchio, cherry tomatoes, several types of kress type greens and a lovely vinaigrette.

The Main was Roast Leg of Lamb served with a side of fresh steamed French style green beans and a lovely lamb based gravy.

Red wine: Ramón Bilbao 2019 Reserve.

Dessert: A French Toast type Spanish dessert called Torrijas.

Quite enough !!!

Dh did his own thing, as always.

Monday is our Pasta Day and today was a simple Penne with Arugula prepared in a fresh tomato sauce with oregano and thyme and Pecorino Romano ..

This morning, the 24th of March, Palm Sunday, my husband and I went to our local corner bar for Torrijas, the renowned Spanish French Toast and café .. Sat on a terrace and just had a lovely morning.

We shall have a very light lunch .. A fennel, redbell, tri color field greens / lettuces and Albacore white tuna with cherry tomatoes .. A home made vinaigrette.

A glass of Prosecco Rosé.

Wednesday: 20 / 03 / 2024 ..

Lunch:

Home made Fajitas with strips of chicken breast ..

4 Tortillas made from wheat flour
1 red onion sliced in arcs
1 red bell sliced in fine strips
1 gold bell sliced in fine strips
2 tblsps of Tequila
1 dried red chili pepper (guindilla)
4 Cloves of garlic
Close to a kilo of chicken breast sliced into strips
Extra virgin olive oil
fresh lime juice

Turned out exceptionally well ..

Paired well with a Rosé from Navarra.

Saturday .. 16 / 03 / 2024 ..

Our main for today is Andalusian Punta de Solomillo, which is beef sirloin with Sherry or White Wine of Choice and garlic .. extra virgin olive oil, salt and blk pepper grinded in a pepper mill.

Very simple .. Heat the oil, low flame; then grill the meat to your likeness and when almost done, pour in the wine and allow the liquid to be reduced slightly.

Serve with a baked jack !! Butter and salt .. and if you like sour cream .. And also blk. pepper.

Served with a salad or chicken noodle soup or a chicken rice soup -- light.

Friday: 15 / 03 / 2024 ..

Today my husband and I, had a lovely little lunch out ..

We had not eaten Greek sometime, so we went to Taberna Griega, in Tribunal and we had:

Dolmades (shared)

Tarmosalata ( shared )

Saganaki: Baked Prawns with Feta and Kalmata olives in a light tomato sauce. ( My main )

My husband loves Moussaka, and so he had his main.

And we ordered a light lovely Rosé from Crete which was very very exquisite.

Dessert: We shared Baklava and a Greek Café.

La Taberna transports one to the Greek Isles !!!

Lovely spot - if travelling over to Madrid.

We eat our main meal at 14.00 daily and both of us, enjoy discussing what we would like, ingreidents, food in general and also both of us try to eat varied, 1 day meat, 1 day pasta, 1 day chicken, 1 day vegetarian, 1 day fish, one day risotto etcetra.

We eat out on Fridays ( Menu of the day ) for a change of pace and Saturday nights with dear friends .. Usually Italian or Asian (Japanese, Thai, Sechzan, Cantonese or Indian or Mexican, Greek, Lebanese or Moroccan etc.) ..

Today was a renowned Asturian dish called "Fabes con Almejas" which is large white Alubia beans (These are a giant sized Cannelli beans - sometimes called Pochas) with clams ..

Simple and delicious.

13 / 03 / 2024 - Wednesday ..

Today I am preparing TOM KHA GAI, a lime kaffir, lemon grass, coconut milk, chicken stock, chicken, brown sugar (very litle - 1 tsp.) and cilantro (very little) and 1 red dried Basque chili pepper 1 pot Thai soup ..

It is scrumptuous and quite simple actually to prepare.
