28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

For brunch today I had the last of the blackberry and apple, blueberries, a chopped banana and two wheat biscuits at about 1pm.
16 x 8 fasting, my usual.

With Burns Night approaching I am already making culinary plans
I’m planning to host a Scottish-themed dinner party for some equally posh friends, and I want to get it right. To give you an idea of how posh we all are, our local chippy serves fish and chips in a briefcase, none of your paper and crap. I intend welcoming my guests with pre-dinner drinks of chilled Irn Bru (with cherry on a stick, of course). Then, for starters, I thought I would serve —langurs— —languors— prawns, triple fried in Loch Morlich spring water with Marie Rose sauce. For the main course, I thought I’d do baked Hebridean haggis on a bed of crushed neeps, served with samphire shavings and a truffle jus. For dessert, I was thinking of doing fried mars bar and custard made with Highland cow’s milk and a twatty mint leaf stuck on the top. I would follow all that with after dinner drinks of lightly chilled Buckfast with After Eight mints.

Today it has been raining "cats & dogs" all day.
I think it's on the way to the UK.

Cheese and biscuits.
Boring but we had been out and it was quick.
DH had home-made paté on toast.

Sorry, I don't understand the above post. Could someone explain.

The Grasnet post?
Not sure, sorry kittylester, but I think it was addressed to GNHQ.

Witzend

Today I had 2 streaky bacon rashers, well crisped up, some leftover boiled potatoes, sliced and fried (in just a film of oil), plus a few sliced mushrooms and a fried egg.

This was my ‘breakfast’ at about 1 pm!

So did DH, except substitute the mushrooms for black pudding.

Well, mine was a sani, DH's homemade white bread, buttered with leftover pear and stilton pate and a slice of ham. Oh and to show I'm straight out of the lower classes a banana

I had leftover roasted red peppers, onions, mushrooms, courgette in a small jacket potato.

Pear and stilton paté sounds quite posh 😃

The bananas have gone over-ripe (again).
Banana cake perhaps?

Maybe her name says it all,Frenchgalinspain. Trying to educate the unsophisticated English yet again.

The Administrator of Grasnet Food Forum:

Do you have a problem with non native U.K. citizens on Grasnet ?

We all know that is called "rude" ..

Weigh your words and never mention my " Grasnet Name" ..

Thursday.
18 / 01 / 2024.

Lunch Today at home is:

A renowned French dish worldwide: Entrecôte Bérnaise with a simple tri color lettuce salad with cherry tomatoes and a home made vinagrette and served with a wonderful red wine.

We are not big on sugary desserts and so, seasonal clementines and brie.

Patsy70 Wed 17-Jan-24 19:04:12

I also made roasted sweet potato & red pepper soup in the soup maker, with onion, celery, potato - really good. OH is having more for supper when he comes home late from his ukulele club.

MiniMoon Wed 17-Jan-24 18:23:00

I made sweet potato and red pepper soup, and a fish and courgette pie.
Both delicious and there is leftover soup for supper.

Today, home made Chicken Kiev served with a lovely Prosecco.

Oven 200 degrees Centig.

Grease a sheet, and oven bake approx 6 minutes per side.

That’s amazing. The photo you put up is exactly the same as the one on the Cordon Bleu website.

My photo is similar but not the same ..

However, I did do some very extensive courses in Paris at the Le Cordon Blue Culinary Academy.

It is a lovely dish and nothing fried. Grease a baking sheet and oven bake in a pre-heated oven approx 6 minutes per side, depending on one´s oven.

Jaxjacky Wed 17-Jan-24 17:53:39

Brunch at 11:30 steel cut oats, banana, blueberries and defrosted blackberry&apple.
I don’t drink during the day.

AreWeThereYet

I wonder if she means that she lives in the Capitol building in Madrid - presumably where she gets her 'Menu of the day'. It's quite a famous building so she may be assuming others would know of it. I may be wrong.

Oh, possibly.

Frenchgalinspain did say today's was a brunch at home and I must say it looks delicious.

"Must try harder"

I explained this if you look up the thread to LADIES, approx 4 posts above this one.

No, The Madrid Capital is the centre of the City as the region is also called The Autonomous Community of Madrid.

Go up 4 posts for my original post on answering some questions that were asked.

That sounds nice, I bought some cod today so might try it

Frenchgalinspain Wed 17-Jan-24 16:43:57

17 / 01 / 2024 ..
Wednesday.

Today Poached Cod with white wine and tomatoes.
Simply Extra virgin olive oil 100% Hojiblanca, some leek or shallots, 3 garlic cloves finely slithered, fresh La Rioja red ripe tomatoes de-seeded and peeled and a 1 / 3 cup of dry white wine or Asturian Sidra ( Sparkling Cider ) .. 3 Tablespoons of fresh chopped parsley .. S & P - a light sprinkle of salt (cautions - cod tends to be salty even though it is fresh and a grind or 2 of black peppercorns).

Pre heat oven and sauté the ingredients except the fish and the wine in a skillet with olive oil and cook on low flame until tender. Then boil the tomatoes and peel.

Place all this in the vessel for the oven with fish on top and the wine and fresh parsley. Cover baking dish with foil.

BAKE until fish is opaque in centre approx 25 - 30 mins depending on one´s oven.

Serve with a white wine or Cava or Prosecco or Sidra.

Light, low cal, low fat, low sugar .. No gluten ..

Germanshepherdsmum

Lovely. And the quiche looks delicious. What’s in it?

Another lady asked me the same question.

I gave the ingredients for the pastry shell that I use and the interior products and amounts ..

Do not remember the exact date but it was recent, either last week or over weekend that just passed.

I work, and I just have so many hours in a day and I am busy starting my Spring Magazine plus have articles to cover at the 2 Trade fairs coming up ..

If i recall, the lady´s 1st name begins with the letter "P" .. Petra perhaps.

Callistemon21 Tue 16-Jan-24 22:48:46

Poached egg on toast.

A very fresh egg from a free range hen owned by a friend.

16 / 01. Tuesday Lunch.

A very Spanish lunch today:

Pisto Manchego, which is a vegetable dish consisting of Spring onion or scallions, green and red bell pepper, courgette or zucchine, red tomatoes, Extra virgin olive oil, salt, parsley (fresh), garlic and topped with either hard boiled eggs or poached.

The main was: Fresh oven baked Cod Fish on a bed of potato, tomato and sprinkled with fresh herbs and s & p and a drizzle of 100% Hojiblanca Extra virgin olive oil and prepared with a drizzle of white wine.

Very simple .. Bread (baguette) from bakery and a glass of white wine from Galicia (an Albariño 100% grape variety) called Pazo Señorans from Cambados, Galicia.

Nice day wishes.
