What is for brunch or lunch ?

28 / 11. Tuesday.

Sometimes, my husband and I enjoy having brunch during the week at home instead of a typical Menu del Día as we live in The Madrid Capital.
Eggs Benedict is quite versatile and can be prepared with either Smoked Salmon or Bacon or Ham. Eggs Florentine is quite a healthy alternative and French toast is always quite endearing.

Today, we had 2 delicious steaks (beef) with gorgeous home made (not frozen or purchased outside) Fries ..

It is not something hubs makes too often however, it is an overcast cloudy chilly day (12 degrees centigrade this morning and at the moment a chilly 20 centig.) ..

We enjoyed a lovely red Rioja wine from Vincente Cebrian´s Wine Estate - Marqués de Murrieta. Logroño.

Friday, the 12th of September 2025 ..

Today we both had old friends treat us for lunch.

Had Shanghai Chinese in centre of Madrid and it was a highly recommended authentic and fabulous little new place.

Had bok choi which I adore, fideos (of rice) that were to die and go to heaven for and the main was langostinos ( large prawns ) with a gingery sauce that were extraordinary ..

The prawns were served with assorted veggies on a "tiny cooker on live flame" on the table.

Just amazingly lovely.

18 / 08. Monday.

Baked Perch with tomato, Galician sweet onion, lavendar garlic, lemon, salt and white pepper ..

Very simple and truly delicious.

The salad was simple; baby spinach leaves, tomatoes, hard boiled egg and Ventresca ( jar of white tuna belly in olive oil ).

Nice simple lunch ..

15th August - Friday .. The day of Saint Paloma ..

The weather is atrocious (hotter than hell @ 30 centigrade degrees ) in The Madrid Capital.

We headed over to have a "menu del día" ( a 3 course lunch for 14.90 €uros ).

Had the cod fish appetiser and for the main, calamari and a modern version of brava potatoes roasted and for dessert a slice of Basque cheesecake.

Vi Cool is located in Anton Martin on Calle Huertas 12, a very trendy cool little neighbourhood with fascinating little shops and unique bistros.

Found a lovely little Greek Bistro with all sorts of Mezze which we are going to try next week !!

Love Greek and Turkish cuisine. The problem is, there are really no Turkish fine dining establishments here.

Moroccan yes and Greek but not Turkish -- in process of searching.

A simple Caesar Salad with Breast of Chicken .. And served with toasted Pita .. and extra virgin olive oil ( hojiblanca ) ..

Dessert: Fresh Honeydew and Fresh Watermelon ..

Chocolate and hazelnut mousse with dark cherries.

Tofu and vegetable stir fry planned which I don’t fancy.

17 / 07 / 2025 .. Thursday.

Today after a morning´s manicure and facial I headed downtown to meet up with my dear and two close friends.
Lunch was an array of classic Spanish and modern Madrileño tapas !!

Breaded calamari ..
Ensaladilla Rusa - Russian Salad which consists of tuna, mayonnaise, carrots, potatoes, salt, black freshly ground black pepper and tender green peas.
Fresh grilled prawns ..
Fresh oysters served on ice..

Just all lovely .. a bit pricey but truly lovely ..
A bottle of Prosecco from Freixnet ..
San Miguel Main Market..
La Latina ..
Madrid ..

Sunday, the 13th of July 2025 ..

Today we ventured off for Brunch with friends ..

Had the typical .. Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and Hollandaise .. Teriyaki with veggies tempura and hibiscious, rose and tropical fruits ..

Of course an iced coffee to finish and a Prosecco to begin.

Thursday - The 3rd of July ..

Lunch today was our fave Chinese @ China Crown, in Barrio Salamanca - Madrid.

We had Dim Sim ..

I had a seabass with ginger that was totally elegant and my husband had his fave, the Fideos (noodles) with a variety of vegetables and thin strips of veal ..

Sunday .. 29th June 2025 ..

Due to the extreme temperatures, we decided to put the air conditioning on and enjoying our dining room ..

Lunch was very light and simple. An authentic Niçoise with Ventresca white tuna from Cuca and gorgeous Kalamata.

Dessert was a choice fresh fruits. We had the watermelon. Always a lovely quencher of thirst ..

Friday - 27th June 2025 ..

Today we have decided to go for a Napoli Styled Pizza at:

Fratelli Brothers (from Napoli) who were awarded the BEST PIZZA IN THE EUROPEAN UNION OUTSIDE OF ITALIA IN 2022 OR 2023 ..

Absolutely divinity !! And just opened a new Fratelli Brothers Pizzeria in the Gran Vía neighbourhood.

We like their little terraced patio in Alonso Cano, just a short walk from Gregorio Marañon & Paseo de la Castellana,

All our best wishes for a lovely summer season.

Beetroot, White Alubias (northern or navy white beans), goat cheese Salad:

1 beetroot - large
200 grams of Cannelli or northern or navy white beans soaked overnight in water
1 small onion or shallot or leek or chives
salt - Himalyan or sea salt
goat cheese of choice ( i use goat Camembert
black pepper in mill

A touch of Evoo and Balsamic Vinegar from Modena, Italy

Quite a lovely salad served with oven warmed Bauguette or Pita ...

Wednesday.

Hubs and I are having Dim Sim to share and Cantonese Duckling at our favourite Chinese Restaurant.

It was a bit cooler today than yesterday. Yesterday was hell on earth !!

Not forward thinking, calli. I brought in my bay leaves and some mint when I did the bird food this morning.

Just realised that I should also have got parsley but will have to make do with frozen. Sorry Miss Elkin.

Don't worry, kittylester — even Sonic doesn't serve breakfast with starched napkins and a floral centerpiece! 😄 Some mornings, Sonic Breakfast Menu offers a SuperSONIC Breakfast Burrito and a hot coffee in the car hits the spot way better than herbs from the garden. We all have our days — Miss Elkin would understand... probably while eyeing that napkin roll disapprovingly!

07 / 06: Saturday.

Had been to visit one of my twin daughters who is expecting her 2nd baby ( a little boy ) in mid to late August.

She has a little girl who attends Nursery.

So we are all excited ..

LUNCH SATURYDAY:

Today I prepared Sautéed Skrei, Norwegian Cod (line caught) with Hazelnut Tarator, a creamy nut and garlic blend, one of Turkey´s finest sauces. A true trator uses hazelnuts which grow in Antalya. Though one can prepare it with almonds.

The ingredients employed for readily available:

1/ 2 cup all purpose flour sin gluten
1/ 2 tsp paprika
1/ 4 tsp dried crushed red pepper
Fresh cod line caught
Extra virgin olive oil

The Hazelnut Tarator:

1 Cup blanched hazelnuts or almonds
Breadcrumbs
Water
Lemon juice
garlic cloves ( 2 or 3 )
Evoo
Salt of choice
