It is something I would never think of serving, as cheese sauce and gravy on the same plate seems odd to me. Do lots of you serve this and why, when there are so many traditional trimmings without? grin

Large plates come out in my house for Christmas lunch so enough room for cauliflower cheese, keep the cauliflower cheese up one end and put the turkey or other meat and potatoes the other end where you can add the gravy then parsnips and sprouts in the centre and cranberry sauce up by turkey job done delicious dinner. I found lovely broccoli in cheese sauce a few weeks ago in supermarket and have used it on roast dinner a few times so delicious.

I would never have dreamt of cauliflower cheese with Christmas dinner until a few years ago. I'd prepared the veg (including a cauli) and left my dil to make dinner as she loves cooking. She asked if she could take over while I put my feet up. She made cauliflower cheese out of the cauli and it was a lovely extra accompaniment to a Christmas dinner with all the other trimmings. Yummy ! So yes I would recommend it. Not odd at all.

Wot, no roasted carrots or red cabbage 3nanny6?

I wouldn't have it with a Christmas dinner because our plates are full enough with the roast parsnips and carrots, but we have it with roast lamb or pork dinners and love it. I've never minded if the cheese sauce and gravy got mixed up a little. It all goes down the same road, as my old grandad used to say.

We have cauliflower cheese too and yorkies with the turkey - always brussel sprouts and mashed swede - because I love it and use the water in the gravy. No rules on Christmas day lunch for us

What ever takes your fancy but for me no. I still serve what I had as a child, turkey, roast potatoes and parsnips with Brussels sprouts and carrots. No Yorkshire pudding, which for me accompanies roast beef nor mash potatoes.
I live in France so it is the typical English Christmas Day lunch/ dinner, however Christmas Eve we celebrate the French way. But you may think 2 celebratory meals in two days, well there is no Boxing Day/bankholiday, it’s back to work if it is a weekday.

Love it 💗

Mine is in the freezer ready for Christmas day.

Yep. Cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding with Christmas lunch definitely

To ALL the people saying, re Cauli Cheese, "NO, don't like it", or "not in our house" - that's not the point. People like all sorts of different things, if YOU like Cauli Cheese, (or your guest would like some), then it's OK. Not everyone likes cranberry, or sprouts, or parsnips (I know, ridiculous, but it's their choice) etc.

But as those commenters have said, keep the gravy away from the cheesy bit.

I love cauliflower, and I love cheese, but cauliflower cheese, no thank you, it's as bad as mac and cheese

icanhandthemback Thu 07-Dec-23 15:12:43

Yes! I have it with everything I can. Last night I had it with Beef Bourguignon and it was divine!

BlueBelle Thu 07-Dec-23 15:14:14

It all goes down the same way…. why not

Mojack26 Thu 07-Dec-23 15:30:54

Ive made that for Christmas Dinner...Have what you like

poochwool Thu 07-Dec-23 16:46:55

Since we have stopped eating meat, I only make a roast dinner when family are here. There is always a space on the plate for us non-meat eaters and cauliflower cheese fills the gap perfectly. It will be on my table on 25th.

Love cauliflower cheese with a roast dinner

Nicolenet Thu 07-Dec-23 17:08:35

You often get cauliflower cheese at carveries. Not bad if cauliflower is not swimming in a thin cheese sauce!

Gangan2 Thu 07-Dec-23 17:23:03

It is compulsory part of Christmas Dinner in our house and with any roast 😋

Daisydaisydaisy Thu 07-Dec-23 17:35:44

Oooo yes !Yes !Yes
Why does Christmas have to be a certain way ?🙂

Cossy Thu 07-Dec-23 18:45:36

Yes! And love it x

I always serve cauliflower cheese with a roast and will do so for Christmas dinner. I don’t really think it’s necessary but my family expect and enjoy it. We never had it as a side dish when I was a child, nor did my children. It is substantial enough as a main meal. I do find it too much with a roast so I have my cauliflower plain if I am cooking or just a taste elsewhere. Thought I’d make Jamie Oliver’s delicious broccoli and cauliflower cheese this year. I’ll have a little of it but not too much- have to leave room for my favourite roast potatoes!

GrannySomerset Thu 07-Dec-23 18:57:51

We like cauliflower cheese with pork sausages (the best quality, obviously) as a winter meal. With the turkey and all the trimmings it would be one thing to many for the cook.

Summerfly Thu 07-Dec-23 21:40:12

I love cauliflower cheese. I don’t eat meat but love it with roasted potatoes and parsnips. I always add it to Christmas dinner. A much loved side to the turkey for the rest of the family.

Bleach! How disgusting!
I'm allergic to cauliflower anyway, so it's not even allowed in the house, never mind on a plate!

DeeJaysMum Mon 11-Dec-23 02:58:08

Oh I wish there was an edit button. That above should have said Bleugh, not bleach!
