Hi everyone......
I'm thrilled to join this awesome forum my name is Edward Guerra from Los Angeles and I'm a total foodie at heart. Whether it's trying out new recipes, exploring local eateries, or experimenting with ingredients in my own kitchen, I'm always on the lookout for exciting culinary adventures.

I wanted to kick off my forum journey by posing a question to all you seasoned members out there:

What's your absolute favorite go to comfort food?

We all have that one dish that never fails to lift our spirits or transport us back to a cherished memory. It could be a hearty bowl of soup, a decadent dessert, or even a snack that holds a special place in your heart. I'd love to hear about your comfort food choices and the stories behind them!

Feel free to share recipes, recommendations, or just your fond memories associated with your favorite comfort food. I can't wait to learn from the seasoned foodies in this community and hopefully, make some new friends along the way.

Looking forward to the delicious discussions ahead....

Stornoway Black Pudding (SBP) every time. A Food of the Gods, which transports me (a long way) back to my childhood. I recently ate at a restaurant which offered a set-price breakfast including any 5 items from the hot buffet. I gorged my way through one fried egg and four thick slices of SBP...

I love egg and chips. Plain and simple with a cuppa and slice of bread and butter. Bliss!

Buttery mashed potato with grated cheddar cheese on top put under the grill until it is golden and bubbling.

A simpler snack is an apricot jam sandwich but it has to be a tangy good quality full of apricots jam. At the moment there is only one that fits, but not as good as the one I had when I came home from school as a child to keep me going til dinner. That was Koo in tins from South Africa. You can’t get it now. It had whole half fruits and was delicious.

What's your favourite comfort food, Edward? We'd love to hear.

Chocolate. Those Vietnamese bread rolls (Banh Mi) with pork and the lovely sauce.

Good morning, Edward from Cumbria UK and welcome to our site!

My all time favourite comfort food is a hot cheese and onion slice from Brysons, our local bakery, they're absolutely delicious!

Also Custard Cream biscuits dipped in mugs of PG Tips tea!

It might be ok with Italian sourdough, NotSpagetti. Worth a try. It just doesn't seem the same with brown bread though.
How great to have home made bread all the time. smile

I just love good old fashioned home cooked food.
We've Lancashire Hotpot for dinner.

henetha I haven't had it for years as my husband bakes nearly all our bread and I can't remember him baking white bread unless Italian type sourdough.

Porridge

Home made soup - especially chicken, or pea and ham.

We don’t have beef any more, but I used to love a beef stew.

Macaroni cheese.

Any milk pudding.

When my son was about eight he asked me for some bread and milk. He had read about it in books, but never tasted it.

Cheese on toast - Cheddar cheese on a granary bread by choice.
If there's a side salad of green leaves and tomatoes with a sharp vinaigrette dressing then so much the better.

When poorly - home made chicken soup.

Oh good, another fan of bread and milk, NotSpagetti. It really is comforting isn't it.
A friend of mine used to have bread with hot tea on it instead of milk. I tried it and didn't like it.

Pammie1 Sun 28-Jan-24 11:43:24

Macaroni Cheese - home made - with cubed ham and spring onions.

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Jan-24 11:43:16

henetha - the bread and milk was a favourite of mine as a child. I sometimes had it on very cold winter mornings for breakfast - but more often if I was ill.

henetha Sun 28-Jan-24 11:40:08

My comfort food is very simple and I don't think it will cause much excitement in Los Angeles. It's bread and milk.
It must be white bread, broken into bite sized pieces and then hot milk poured over it with a sprinkling of white sugar. It's very unhealthy therefore, but I love it. (don't eat it often these days.) My mother made this for me when I was young.
Also, simple toasted cheese on toast.
And a lovely roast lamb dinner with peas and brussels sprouts.

Why do I suspect a link to a website will be coming along shortly?

I thought the same! wink

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Jan-24 11:16:51

Welcome Edward -

Mine would be either baked potato with lots of butter and cheese or sausages, mash, gravy and (probably) peas.

That would explain the ‘favorite’ and saves me from getting pedantically irritated by it.
