Average weight of packaged food

We often buy prepackaged smoked salmon from the supermarket as a lunch treat, usually 150g with an e after the amount. For the last few months I’ve been weighing it and the amount of fish is consistently around 140g. Surely if ‘e’ means estimated and indicates the average weight, then by the law of averages at least one packet should have been slightly more than 150g? Never had one yet.

Realise my obsessive weighing probably makes me a very sad person, but any explanation would be very helpful!

I've also noticed the weight of products with an 'e' after the specified quantity. This may be because the 'e' indicates the average weight of the batch, and sometimes it may be lower than the specified weight.

If nothing else they will check their suppliers.
You could weigh the packs in the store and pick a heavier one next time!

Thanks NotSpaghetti, that’s a good plan, I’ll email the supermarket as it was their own brand.
I did use scales bought from the same supermarket.

I do often weigh pre-weighed things (apples etc) - they are usually "over"

Why not email the company?

It's called ripping people off and hoping they are too stupid to notice!
