What to do with mooli?

Anyone know any recipes for mooli, other than salad, pickles or curry? I bought a 15" long mooli today, thinking I'd find masses of recipes online, but not much joy. I know I can freeze it so it won't go to waste, but apparently it doesn't last well when frozen, so what do I do with it in the long run?

What’s ‘mooli’ ?

Aldom Wed 04-Sept-24 19:53:03

Mooli is a root vegetable, white, long a bit like horseradish to look at. It's sweet and spicy. You can grate it on to salads. Roast or steam mooli. It's nice in soups or casseroles. That's about it I think.

I googled Asian recipes mooli, there are quite a few.

Compost it?

Thanks - I don’t think I’ve seen it in Asda or Tescos -

My DH was not a domesticated specimen. When I was discharged from hospital with DD1, I asked him to shop for a few things (with my list). He didn’t do too badly, but brought back a giant mouli instead of parsnips!

Mooli - sorry for misspelling.

It is a type of radish it can be shredded and used in stir fry or as a coleslaw. We can’t buy anything like it unless we go to an International food store nearer the city centre.

Aldom

MOnica I sent you a private message earlier. smile

It doesn't seem to have arrived.

Aldom Thu 05-Sept-24 07:57:31

MOnica. I've just sent you another private message, although the original message is in SENT. The subject heading is Wallingford, which I think may be the reason you haven't seen it, thinking it's a message about the recent meet up. smile

M0nica Thu 05-Sept-24 18:05:06

Aldom still no private message. I have sent you a test PM.

Aldom Thu 05-Sept-24 18:55:00

I've recently sent Received to you and it's SENT. Hope you have it in your inbox.

M0nica Thu 05-Sept-24 21:17:55

Yes I have.

Aldom Thu 05-Sept-24 22:28:23

I followed Received with a message has it arrived?

Peel.
Grate.
Squeeze on juice from freshly grated knob of ginger.

Refreshing as side salad or condiment.

I’ve walked through a street market in Whitechapel this morning. As well as mooli (which I did recognise) they’re were vegetables I had never seen before, including a reddish-brown leafy stem, up to 4 feet long. It’s mango season and the air was heavy with the scent of boxes and boxes of ripe mangoes from Egypt and Pakistan.

Lahlah65 Sat 07-Sept-24 13:40:21

…edit…there were..

Mojack26 Sat 07-Sept-24 15:08:37

Aldom Sat 07-Sept-24 16:04:26

We call radish mooli in north India, used mostly for salad and parantha.
