Could someone post a link or even the recipe for FGT2 famous SOAP dish. Thank you.

kittylester Sun 06-Oct-24 11:49:54

Cabbie, as a long standing poster, I'm fairly sure you were around when Fgt2 posted the recipe - possibly on the GM thread or in the kitchen - which would be appropriate!!

Not really in crowd.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 06-Oct-24 12:14:49

Cabbie not in crowd at all.
I used to be Urmstongran if that helps?

Aveline Sun 06-Oct-24 12:45:03

Gosh thanks. I'd wondered who Urmstongran had come back as. Glad to see you. Now where's Callistemon?

Usedtobeblonde Sun 06-Oct-24 12:56:03

Now Aveline I am quite hurt and upset that you didn’t wonder who I was in a previous life🙁🥲
But you maybe know I was annsixty so maybe I will let you off JUST this once.

kittylester Sun 06-Oct-24 12:58:34

Fingers crossed that we don't have another flurry of forced name changes. I am easily confused.

BlueBelle Sun 06-Oct-24 13:16:37

I ve been on GN 11/12 years and no idea what SOAP meant but as I don’t eat meat I wouldn’t know would I . and as for user names never know who is who anyway…. just read the post not who posts it
Who is FriedGreenTomatoes 1 then ?🤣

GrannyIvy Sun 06-Oct-24 13:48:25

I’m going to try it, do I need to put a stock cube in?

Aveline Sun 06-Oct-24 13:51:21

You are annsixty? Usedtobeblonde?! My mind is blown!

M0nica Sun 06-Oct-24 13:57:40

Usedtobeblonde

If you had been on GN a few years back I expect you would have been aware of SOAP.
Also the name that FGT went by then.

I have been on GN since a few weeks after it began and have never come across SOAP. I still do not see what is so special about it. I am sure there are lots of recipes lists of ingredients can be treated as anagrams and produce words.

Not that I am going to try, better things to do.

MissAdventure Sun 06-Oct-24 13:59:54

Next time, annsixty is coming back as UsetobeUseto beblonde smile

Is this like an alcohol free pork in cider? Never heard of it before.

merlotgran Mon 07-Oct-24 12:32:54

I have passed the SOAP recipe round the family and everyone loves it. I used to teach food technology and students would always be asked to suggest modifications so ours are:

Shoulder pork steaks, belly pork or sausages.
Chicken stock instead of water.
Celeriac mash or colcannon.

Perfect comfort food on winter evenings.

Allira

Confession time - I googled it 😁

FGT - Foster–Greer–Thorbecke indices

How about FriedGreenTomatoes2

BlueSapphire Mon 07-Oct-24 13:57:23

Ha, this has come at just the right time! I bought pork steaks on Saturday, and will make this tomorrow, nay, why wait till tomorrow? I'll have it today!
Looking forward to dinner now!

Mojack26 Mon 07-Oct-24 14:59:41

Eh? ?

TillyTrotter Mon 07-Oct-24 15:08:53

Oh dear there are a couple of sourpusses on this thread.
SOAP dish is well known to most of us as,
is the GN originator FriedGreenTomatoes (and her previous name 😜 )

Allira Mon 07-Oct-24 15:11:07

But not to all of us 🙂
And it doesn't mean those who did not know what the acronyms mean are sourpusses

teabagwoman Mon 07-Oct-24 15:17:09

Pork steaks will be on my next shopping list.

Allira Mon 07-Oct-24 15:20:09

I shall try it

TillyTrotter Mon 07-Oct-24 15:21:03

Apologies Allira.

Allira Mon 07-Oct-24 15:23:52

TillyTrotter

Apologies Allira.

That's ok 🐱

I was being a bit dense as I've seen FriedGreenTomatoes2 post. Just didn't work it out.

BlueBelle Mon 07-Oct-24 19:22:12

Bit harsh TillyTrotter I ve been on here years about 11+ and never come across any of this and I m not a sourpuss ta

I love Gransnet but hate the acronyms. Why do people use them rather than writing the actual words ?
This is the only site where acronyms are used so much and I cannot understand why. Does anyone know the answer ?

Convenience, I guess? You've obviously never been on Mumsnet then - they love an acronym over there!

You don’t have to use them.
It’s not compulsory.
