A 2 pint rice pudding is in the oven. And dh is away until very late tomorrow night, so I’ll probably have to eat it all myself šŸ·šŸ™‚.

Sounds delicious and not totally unhealthy!

Nutmeg and the skin for me please.

It'll keep you 'regular'......

Yum.. nothing like a slow, home cooked rice pudding

Fartooold Sat 16-Nov-24 12:14:03

Can I come for dinner!

ExDancer Fri 29-Nov-24 10:46:57

It'll freeze.
I usually make a white sauce with mine, and freeze it for later. (I do not like milk puddings, a memory of school dinners I think).

How about an egg custard? I haven’t had one for years!

Yum .
I love a home made rice pudding.
I'm going to have a go at making a coconut rice pudding after a long overdue tidy of my kitchen cupboards .
Egg custard is yummy too .
Another idea for a glut of milk -warm it up and sour it with lemon or lime juice .
Allow to separate , strain and you've made paneer .
I've curried it and mixed with peas or spinach makes a healthy Indian vegetarian dish .
It doesn't look pretty , but tastes great .

Lovely, I always add a small can of evaporated milk……

Don’t like the skin though, but MrOops does.

My mum always made a rice pudding to go in the oven when she roasted s joint of meat, which was usually on a Saturday. We lived opposite a church. One Saturday during dinner she spotted people gathering for a wedding. My sister and I rushed into the front room to see the bride and bridesmaids. When we got back mum had polished off the rest of the rice pudding. It normally did two days!

Does anyone who gets their milk via a milkman find that the milk goes off very quickly? I’m not using as much milk as usual and keep finding myself opening a new bottle only to find it has gone off. I don’ t want to reduce the amount the milkman brings as it isn’t very much anyway.

Yes. Sadly.

We have had to go back to the blooming supermarket...

Could you decant some to washable plastic bottles, or boxes or bags, and freeze some, then pour it into a jug when it's defrosted?

I did freeze some when I was going away for a while but it didn’t freeze well. Maybe it doesn’t keep for long when frozen either?

No, ours doesn’t go off. If I do have a lot too much (because I’ve forgotten to cancel it) I often freeze some in plastic bottles. Come in handy for the odd times when I’m a bit short.

Wonder if there’s a problem with my fridge. The salad freezes but the milk goes off.

NotSpaghetti Fri 29-Nov-24 23:33:48

Ours was simply delivered too early.
