Some oats, brown sugar and mixed spice along with chopped nuts added to standard crumble mix.... adds bite!!

I substitue some of the flour with porridge oats and use muscovado.

It makes a crmblier topping.

Same here. Nothing like a great crumble, tomorrow, apple and cinnamon.

Salti, my MiL always used to keep some crumble topping ready in the fridge. I never have, but then unless we’ve got guests, puddings are a rarity in this house - we’d both be as fat as 🐷🐷 if we had them very often.

There are only two of us. Crumble is just the fastest pudding to prepare and bung in the oven alongside anything I'm roasting. I keep frozen fruit in the freezer to throw in the base, still frozen, with a bit of sugar and I make a decent amount of crumble topping every few weeks and keep it in a large jar in the fridge ready to tip some on top. I particularly like blueberry crumble.

With that size tin, you could do half and half.. I like both toppings.. and I like crumbles with greek yoghurt.. I've just had blackberries delivered by Ocado so might be making a crumble soon.. Enjoy

I’ll probably stick to my bog-standard method, flour and caster sugar - Granny’s crumbles are a frequently requested item by sundry Gdcs and their cousins, so I’m afraid I dare not deviate from the usual!

Plus ice cream please!

Won’t be able to take that - will just have to hope they’ve got some!

I had to go to 3 shops before finding frozen blackberries, but Waitrose had some. Now ready and waiting in the freezer.

I will have to provide plenty of custard and cream! I think there may be as many as 20, inc. at least half a dozen kids, at the do.

At least I’ll be using that monster tin (40 x 28 cm!) again.
Big extended family pre 🎄 do up north, so in addition to the usual cheese straws, I’m providing mince pies and the crumble - I think I’ll add some frozen blackberries to it.
I shall be very busy cooking the day before we drive up!

For the topping the first time I guessed a kilo of flour, and 500g each of fat and sugar, which turned out pretty much spot on. I will cook it beforehand, since it won’t be eaten until the day after we arrive.

Do you use muscovado as our daughters do?

Ooohhh! Love a good crumble.......with lashing of custard of course! smile
