Cadbury's Current Owners Might Think Again.....

........now that they've lost the Royal Warrant.
They've messed around too much with the Dairy Milk recipe - presumably ambitiously cutting corners in their profit chasing - and trashed a National Treasure.
Serves them right.

You're right there mae. Cadbury's chocolate has definitely changed over the last few years. I don't know which brand of chocolate I prefer. I have tried Hotel Chocolat but although they are nice not as exciting as they make out. I'd rather have a box of Maltesers.

Lindt to me is the best chocolate available at the moment. I agree Hotel Chocolate used to be good, but Lindt is far better.

I didn't even know it had a royal warrant

MaggsMcG Thu 26-Dec-24 12:26:57

None of the once famous tins (plastic tubs) of traditional Christmas chocolates taste the same any more. I try a few every year to give them a chance but they are all horrid. Hero's, Quality Street, Roses, Celebrations all used to be lovely not anymore. I opt for a Terry's Chocolate Orange or their Mint version or M&Ms crispy

The Royal Warrant is meaningless, it's not a sign of quality. They are granted by the royal family to companies that deliver products to them on a regular basis. Some unscrupulous companies will charge extra for if they have the Royal Warrant on their products. They are for the Hyacinth Bouquets of this world.

America. Well what did we expect?
£££
So sad but I agree warrants are prestigious and the USA has ruined a ‘calorific treasure’Hopefully the Royal family will research finding a worthy recipient - preferably in Scotland, N Ireland or Wales. These areas are in need of a boost. The Prince of Wales needs to work at deserving his title - do more for Wales and Scotland.

Lathyrus, Heroes is usually fine for me except I cannot eat the Dinky Deckers ( the Double Decker ones). In Celebrations, I stick to the Snicker ones and the Galaxy chocolate ones. If your friend has been Coeliac/ gluten intolerant a long time, they will have a good idea what they can eat. The only other sweets I know that are GF are Quality Street, Milk Tray or Roses. I got a box of Roses but they are awful.

A bar of Cadbury fruit and nut. 😻

Cossy Thu 26-Dec-24 11:15:45

I still like Cadbury choc, as do all the family, husbands fav is Galaxy though and my fav is a toss up between Hotel Chocolate and most Swiss chocolate brands

I gave up on Cadbury when it was taken over and haven’t had any since. Same for Terry’s chocolate Orange. I love dark chocolate.

My go to usual chocolate is bars from Aldi. Otherwise dark chocolates from Waitrose or a couple of smaller suppliers Friars and Martins. The small companies produce old fashioned chocolates such as violet creams, chocolate gingers etc. It’s all very yummy! Hotel Chocolate used to be my go to but it’s now too expensive and I prefer the others.

I feel rather sad about the demise of Cadburys. My parents grew up near to Bourneville and Mum's first job was in Cadburys accounts department. She said that girls working in the factory were allowed to eat as much chocolate as they liked but after the first week they didn't want to eat another chocolate. The Cadbury family were held in very high regard. A highlight of any visits to Gran was when she produced a bag of mis-shapes or prototype bars which she'd bought from the Cadbury shop.

I’m gluten free, and chocolate on its own never contains gluten, it’s the added flavours that can introduce it. Stick to plain milk or dark, and you’ll be fine.

Grunty

Homestead62 Lindt do a gluten free chocolate. I've attached a copy of their Web page for you.

Need some help here: I didn’t know there was gluten in Lindt. Do either you or Homestead know about any other chocolates? One of my guests is coeliac.

I’ve put out a bowl of chocolates - Cadbury s Heroes and Celebrations.

I know he might be genned up on them and he can just not eat any but it seems a bit mean. If I knew which ones were ok I could make him a little bowl of his own.

He does have a sweet tooth!

Homestead62 Tue 24-Dec-24 10:49:51

Thank you Grunty, will check that out.

petal53 Tue 24-Dec-24 10:48:30

I agree about Terry’s chocolate orange too.
If I was given one, I’d give it away. It’s horrible.

MissAdventure Tue 24-Dec-24 10:39:43

What I've found is that palm oil and sugar have been taken out, and reduced.

I'm very pleased to see that so many of you feel as I do....that Cadburys chocolate is just not the same as it used to be. I was also surprised recently to see that palm oil has been added to it. Completely unnecessary!

Palm oil and tons of sugar.
Terrys choc orange now taste horrible as well.

This thread is the perfect example of why iconic British brands should not be allowed to be foreign owned, though I don’t quite know how we could prevent it.

Shinamae Tue 24-Dec-24 10:12:35

I used to love Cadbury’s chocolate not anymore like others have said it is just not nice
I don’t have chocolate very often now, but on the occasions, I do I have Lindt Lindor (it is expensive, but what isn’t today?)

MissAdventure Tue 24-Dec-24 10:12:08

Yes, it seems people preferred it with the palm oil and more sugar in.

petal53 Tue 24-Dec-24 09:56:15

Palm oil or not, it’s still horrible.

MissAdventure Tue 24-Dec-24 09:54:26

It doesnt contain palm oil!!!

petal53 Tue 24-Dec-24 09:45:08

Cadbury don’t deserve a Royal Warrant.
The stuff they produce is vile.
It’s not chocolate.
I could think of other names for it but definitely not chocolate.
It’s so sad that we have lost so many of our industries and businesses over the years. All sold to greedy, grasping buyers.

Cadbury's owners kept trading in Russia after sanctions were announced. That was enough for me to give up on them. Good for the Royal family to withdraw it's royal warrant.

Think this is the reason for losing the warrant

My English friend has a British shop in France, she takes orders for special requests. I've just asked her and she says customers don't want Cadbury's chocolate, but they do still want Cadbury's chocolate fingers. It seems it still tastes OK to people coating biscuits.
