Oh wow, that's expensive. We pay £1 for six eggs from a local smallholder. Totally organic and completely free range - you can see the chickens roaming about in their pastures.

I also only buy organic eggs.
I am not phased by feeding hens marigolds though or including paprika in their diets.
After all, they will happily eat marigolds in the garden!

Unless paprika and marigolds cause them harm I'd be OK with it.

I always buy organic eggs. They are more expensive but we don’t eat that many.

£3.20 for 6 in Sainsburys

How much are they, just out of interest?

Organic free range eggs for us however, DD only buys Burford Brown eggs.

(happy to eat mine when she is here, as are the GC 😹)’

True Whitewave. And the ARE delicious, paprika or not!

I have always bought organic free range eggs whatever they look like.

I agree, my criteria too. Burford eggs are very tasty!

If the hens are well cared for and happy, then why not continue to eat eggs you enjoy?

That is my criteria for all things animal related.

Are expensive. I’ve bought them for years believing their rich yellow yolks were superior somehow. I refuse to buy ‘cheap’ eggs because I think of animal provenance.

However I’ve just read an article in the Daily Mail from someone doing a hatchet job on the company. 😮

Apparently the feed for the hens is enriched with marigolds and paprika to give the luxurious dark yellow yolks!

I can’t decide whether I’ve been ‘had’ or not? Appearance matters because we eat with our eyes first. Himself just suggested we try organic eggs. I do like the taste of Burford though ….
