Food prices - can't keep up!

It’s bound to get worse when the NI increases and higher minimum wage kick in in April.

Just in my opinion I find the prices expensive no matter the supermarket. I cannot use Aldi as being gluten intolerant their GF food is non existent and I find their fresh produce doesn't last. Lidl is too far away. I tend to shop between 2- 3 supermarkets. Food prices and prices in general won't be coming down. I think we had it too good for too long. I also firmly believe we never recovered from the 2008 crash, but politicians kidded us everything was fine. I don't know what the answer is, but every country is in the same boat.

I have a neighbour who works for a supermarket she told me there are lots of staff off sick constantly. The store won’t take on more staff and because of staff shortages certain counters are unstaffed and closed.
The staff who are working spend all their shift constantly moving stock around shelves in aisles etc. Each time stock is moved the product is priced up and its every day. The government put up retailers costs and we get to pay for it we consumers can’t win.

The Nectar prices from Sainsburys have sucked me in as I pay about a third less for items eg Lurpak unsalted £3.75. They target your favourites, which is clever marketing.
I am reconciled to high food prices but I am prepared to cook which saves you money (hearty veg. soup from boiled ham stock and a 3 day stew).

And it will just keep going up and up and up, and there’s nothing we can do about it, I don’t need to buy a new coat, but I do need to eat 😞

You will have heard that supermarkets are supporting farmers over the Farm Tax increase, that is entirely self interest, if farm production falls in the UK they won’t be able to force the prices down they pay to farmers.
Food prices are set to rise a lot!.

Where do you shop then Mt61?

Hardly a staple, but I did get a bit of a jolt in Sainsbury’s the other day. We never have takeaways and ready meals only rarely, but occasionally I pick up one of the ‘crispy half duck’ packs that come with rice pancakes and hoisin sauce - spring onions and cucumber are extra.
£9!!
I’m sure I’ve not paid more than about £7 before.
We’re still having it tonight, though. 😋

Tomorrow it’ll be nice cheap dal with cauliflower and (frozen) spinach - a huge 1.75 kg bag of yellow lentils is still only around £3.50 in Asda.

I feel so sorry for families I really do!
My shopping has gone up by £30/40 per week & I am careful!

BlueBelle

But hasn’t Sainsbury’s and Waitrose always been the expensive supermarkets I don’t know I ve never shopped in either?
You’re right though Asda are sneaky they put their butter up by about 20p then emblazoned ‘January price drops’ yay it had come done by 1p Sneaky

I think Asda & Morrison’s are super expensive, & as for Lidl I don’t know why people think that’s a cheap place to shop.

I've just started a Sainsbury's online order and my normal "favourites" have increased in price by 9% since the week before last. shock. Normal staple foods, nothing fancy.

Just waiting for a 9% increase in my pension now. But I shan't hold my breath.
