Do tinned raspberries no longer exist? I have a nice recipe for a simple fruit dessert that requires them but I can’t find them in any local supermarkets or smaller stores. I can see dragon fruit, lychees and all manner of exotic fruits but no raspberries!

I recently bought tinned raspberries from Sainsbury’s on a whim. Haven’t tried them yet.

flappergirl, I buy cherry pie filling from Tesco. I made a Black Forest gateau this evening using them for the church kitchen tomorrow

Sainsburys had them at Christmas but they weren’t very nice.

Granra2 -what are you making with the tinned raspberries please?

creakingandchronic Tue 11-Feb-25 18:46:15

I make a sort of black forest cherry trifle and I had the most awful job getting cherry pie filling but Tesco saved the day
Tinned raspberries are very scarce I agree yes frozen is ok but tinned raspberries or strawberries are the best

Last time I bought tinned raspberries I was so disappointed. Basically all just, hardly any raspberries. Stick with frozen now.

Tinned damsons have also completely disappeared. They are/were a family favourite..

Neighbour has a Damson tree, we had a basket full, my wife used them to make Damson Gin!. Then gave it all away as Christmas presents - well most of it

Flappergirl, Ocado still sell both red and black cherry pie filling.

I used to go and pick fruit in the summer, strawberries and raspberries. Then as soon as i got home would pick them over and then put on an open tray spead out not touching and freeze them a tray at a time. Once frosen they could be carefully tipped into freezer boxes and then they were sort of loose frozen so you could take a handful out at a time. The best things I used to make where a good strawberry flan in the winter. Bake the sponge flan case and then put frozen strawberries in pointy ends upwards. Then use a jelly that would be allowed to be luke warm to pour over them. That then defrosted the strawberries and cooled the jelly quickly so it looked quite good. Didnt always work out for the grat look but tasted lovely. Then my real favourite was in about november when it is cold and miserable and you can hardly remember the summer time and I would make a wonderful summer pudding with strawberries and raspberries and probbly a few redcurrants or blackberries in it too. OH the smell of summer as you warmed them and then what an extravagant treat to have our summer pudding with cream. Ah those were the days. Enjoy them when you can

I used to like tinned blackcurrant pie filling and that seems to have disappeared.

I used to buy tinned raspberries regularly but they seem to have disappeared. Frozen ones are ok though.

Granra2 Mon 10-Feb-25 23:06:22

My local Sainsbury’s doesn’t stock them and there is no Aldi in NI.

Granra2 Mon 10-Feb-25 23:04:36

I live in Northern Ireland, we don’t have Waitrose. I could try frozen raspberries in my summer fruit tiramisu. Thanks all.

On a similar note, I can no longer find tinned cherry pie filling. I used to make a quick sponge pudding with it and it was actually delicious with custard. I've also used it to make a sort of black forest cake. Can't find it anywhere now.

Babs03 Mon 10-Feb-25 22:02:15

I use frozen raspberries when making trifle or custard and raspberry tarts.
It is my favourite fruit. And if bought fresh am afraid it doesn’t last long enough to be used for making anything.
😆

I buy lovely frozen raspberries from Aldi.

I use them in overnight oats.

pascal30 Mon 10-Feb-25 21:34:22

I've just bought them from Asda

M0nica Mon 10-Feb-25 21:09:35

actually, I also use fresh raspberries

M0nica Mon 10-Feb-25 21:09:11

I have a simple recipe for a raspberry mousse and I use tinned or frozen raspberrys to make it, depending on what is available.

theworriedwell Mon 10-Feb-25 20:09:39

I buy them at Sainsbury's.
