While we are on the subject of disappointing merchandise, how can fun size be more fun than normal size when it often less than half the size?

Also has anybody else noticed how things are shrinking. I buy duck breasts every now and again and the last lot I bought were the same make and the same price but about half the size.

Even worse is when the 'Peel here' is to reveal the how to cook instructions. The 'here' won't 'peel'....it tears half way through.....you end up trying to read half the instructions and guess what was on the other half.....then realise you've been holding the pack upside down to do all this and the sauce has poured out all over your slippers.

If we eat corned beef we buy the packets.

I remember feeling so grown up when I first mastered the art of opening a corn beef tin.
We used to have a spare opener in the kitchen drawer…but by far the old sardine lids that rolled off were hardest.that is .until the ring pull, now you can risk injury and oil or sauce everywhere😠

The worst possible thing to open is dangerous to open and I can’t understand why it continues to be allowed and that is a SARDINE tin with a metal loop which inevitably snaps off mid pull. I hold one end with a cloth while I try to pull the loop and lid off. One slip and the sharp edges will give you a nasty cut.

Ps apparently corned beef tins are the worst offenders!

What you need is a ring puller!

Surely out of all the management of all the supermarkets - one of them must have noticed that "Peel Here" usually means fiddle about for 5 minutes trying to separate the two layers, before reaching for the scissors or grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing wildly.

I think one of the biggest lies is ‘ANTI-ageing’ cream - I don’t know one person that it has worked on

Just peeling the price off the back of a couple of greetings cards resulted in a a split and peeling fingernail the other day.

As for trying to get the sticky labels off a set of new cereal bowls 🤬

Another bugbear is the replacement of plastic lids with peel back flimsy cover. Which of course doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do.
The food is impossible to keep fresh once opened.

Another bugbear of mine.
Replacing the plastic packaging on my porridge with a paper one. It tore open whilst paying at checkout and I was very annoyed.
I know the reason why manufacturers are doing this, but I don’t agree it should apply to just about everything at our inconvenience, also.

I use sellotape to completely recover the torn cardboard flap. I use a sharp knife to ‘re-enter’ the box and seal again with more sellotape and so on until it’s finished. The reason being that my OH was given porridge at boarding school with a moth in it and still hasn’t recovered 🫢. He’ll eat my (safe) porridge though. I find this much easier than using the fancy plastic dispenser I got and gave that away.

Another of life’s annoyances , but Leerdamer cheese packs do restick and so do Fitzgerald wraps.

I’ve got arthritic hands so you can imagine how I struggle. I sometimes have microwave meals and they say “stir halfway through” which means you’re supposed to peel back the film on the container. I’ve used pliers to try to lift the film then ended up cutting it, then it flaps about, all hot and messy. I try to say “now, how can I do this?” Or I just swear really loudly.

We had a new control panel for a central heating system. It was apparently ^intuitive’ to use. That must be why it had a twenty two page manual to go with it! I never did get to grips with it and now have Hive.

We have the Hive version and that is difficult enough.

What a great post. I was thinking this yesterday when I was trying to open something.

Some of Lidl's "peel here and reseal" packs do, but it may only be the ones bought in Germany that work, so don't fling things at me if yours don't.

There is another older lie to add to this collection: "You cannot possible miss it", said by the person you ask for directions in a to you unknown place. It is always said of the turning you are to take, and always results in a long detour, as you can and will miss that turning.

Asda bacon packs do peel back and seal up again. I keep the wrap round cardboard labelling just to secure it a bit more. Overall though, "peel back" packs are frustrating to say the least.

I have found a packet that works! Tesco Finest streaky bacon. It peels open and the whole pack sticks back together.

Any other ones that work well?
