Keeping butter in a butter dish

Yes, although not for a while. How long? Until it's used up!!

If you think you won't use it very quickly and it might go off, why not cut it into halves or thirds and keep the part you're not using in the fridge until you need it?

I do just this......particularly in warmer weather.

I keep butter in the fridge in a block. Wrapped on a shelf. We do use spreads for sandwiches / bread with soup, but tbh we use more butter for baking, on veg, in sauces, than we use spreads on bread.

Have just discovered making home made butter from scratch - absolutely scrummy ! Keep in a butter dish and doesn't stay in long enough to go off - loving it grin

We like butter. We use Waitrose French salted. We have 2 glass butter dishes which are alternated. It is never uneaten for long enough to go off.

I have a small container with lid that nicely holds about 1/4 lb of butter, that remains on the counter.

Im sure I read “somewhere” salted butter is ok to keep out of fridge moreso than unsalted. I cut the butter packet in half.

Our butter dish is a heavy glass one that we got as a wedding present, not sure how it has lasted this long.

Slightly salted Lidl butter in a block, keep a third in a butter dish and the rest in the fridge.

Always have and do. I like block butter.
Not a fan of spreadable.
I especially like it with rock salt crystals. Delish.

Oh yes! Welsh or Cornish butter with sea salt from Lidl £2.25 cut in half and placed in butter dish which lives in large bread bin!

I use cheaper butter for cooking but the above always on toast, crumpet, toasted banana bread, bara brith 😋

The half block lasts about a week/10 days and I stick it in the freezer if we’re off on ‘olidays!

No I don’t keep it in the fridge it lasts for ages out but then I don’t have any heating in the kitchen guess it wouldn’t last more than a week in the summer

Same as others- 2 butter lidded dishes alternated. Don't put in fridge. Never a problem going off - usually too hard in winter but about 5 seconds in microwave can help.

Yes. Until it is used up then I wash the covered dish and put another one in. It seems to keep OK because of the high fat content. I only refrigerate it in very hot weather.

We use a stoneware covered dish. Once out of the fridge in the morning it keeps the butter cool all day.
For putting butter on the table I use a small stone ware open dish with a small amount for that meal.

Yes, always.
In the summer it might go in the fridge during a particularly hot spell but otherwise it's out on the work surface.

and for how long?
Well, it gets used up fairly rapidly.

I keep a quarter of a pound at a time in a butter dish by the bread bin. It lasts a few days out of the fridge and if there's just a bit left, I use it up for.cooking or greasing a cake tin.

Now, I have discovered that ‘spreadable’ butter isn’t.
Do any of you keep ‘proper’ butter in a butter dish, and for how long?
