I've suddenly taken to enjoying coffee, (been a tea drinker most of my life).
So I've bought a coffee grinder and was wondering what recommendations for buying coffee beans.
I've tried Taylors and Asdas but wasn't that impressed . Thanks

I buy coffee beans from Rave coffee, they have a good selection and also do an organic coffee although I haven’t tried it yet. My favourite is El Carmen sugarcane.

I will try Potterbeans, choughdancer - thanks.

I'm not a fan of the Cafédirect Machu Picchu one, unfortunately.
Nor Grumpy Mule's offerings (think I tried three). Waitrose does a couple that aren't terrific.
I was gifted six packs of different organic (small brands) coffee for my birthday and my son brought two back from the Philippines. I am looking presumably for something more "everyday" than the niche brands.
Not even a fan of Lavazza ¡Tierra!...
But am happy to try something else!
Thank you though.

If there's anyone out there whose found great organic coffee I'd love to know please!

Can't tell you how many I've tried!

The Cafe Direct one that we buy is organic, not sure if they all are though.

I buy Cafe Direct (Machu Picchu) from Oxfam they are organic and not from a big corporate company

This is my favourite coffee too, I've bought from Oxfam in the past when they did the 750g bags but they're only doing the small ones now. If you search on Google you can find lower prices, I buy in bulk and have just bought from

At one time the first thing I ate each day was a few chocolate coated coffee beans. I drank tea alongside.

Me weird? Never!

No idea what kind of coffee beans they were.

I only drink coffee, do not enjoy tea. So at home for an everyday coffee I use tesco decaffinated. I make it in a cafetiere. I find it is the only decent ground coffee that actually still tastes strongly as I like it, and I buy it in vacuum packs and store in an airtight container once opened. That way allows me to enjoy as a treat all kinds of coffee when I go out and about. When I then find a particular coffee I enjoy I buy small amounts so that I can enjoy them and have a friend who comes and we enjoy trying things out.

Volcano Coffee Works did a delicious 'Christmas Coffee', beans or powder. Also the Electric Coffee Company - start with the Electric Blend Collection, the Rocket 88 Blend is delicious. Also, Kiss The Hippo is great coffee. All these are on-line.

Lavazza all the way we have a bean to cup and lavazza from Amazon on subscription is the best

I've started using a Japanese coffee bean called Ueshima. It's available in Morrisons (often on special offer for £3.50) and Waitrose. My very faddy son likes it too!

I use a bean to cup machine. Like you I was mostly a tea drinker. As others said try a variety. The difference between them is incredible. Get as fresh beans as you can, and keep them airtight. If you buy too many to use, freeze the beans. Not letting them get stale is key. I’m reading with interest all the recommendations on here.

You have already received many ideas.
I will add I buy mine from the same place as my son as I loved his Yargachaffe flavour which is so tasty. I also buy a Brazilian descaffie flavour all online from Coffee Bean in Ashford.

Italian coffee

shoppinggirl Fri 07-Mar-25 14:46:27

My preference for everyday coffee is Illy or Lavazzo. Both quite expensive but they taste like "proper" coffee!

icanhandthemback Fri 07-Mar-25 14:40:22

Lavazza is our favourite daily coffee which we buy in bulk from Amazon. Every so often we buy other brands but always look forward to going back to our favourite.

NemosMum Fri 07-Mar-25 14:37:17

M&S Italian roast beans are great - good value too!

TiggyW Fri 07-Mar-25 14:23:51

I love freshly ground coffee (drinking some now) but I can’t say that I can distinguish between the different beans used. I usually buy a 1kg bag from TK Maxx - whatever they have in stock at the time, currently £10.99 - £12.99. I’ve also just bought a 1kg bag from Aldi - one of their Specials, for £7.99.

Rounton coffee. A Yorkshire company. But online

PippaZoe Fri 07-Mar-25 13:45:32

We only buy Lavazza Qualita Oro (gold 250g packet). I buy them when they are on offer.

NotSpaghetti Wed 05-Mar-25 08:27:08

Lavazza make decent "everyday" coffee (try the red one maybe first as I think that's the "standard") but I do think it depends on how you intend to process it.

We use a coffee machine mainly and occasionally a Bialetti.
I don't think Lavazza is so good in a French press/cafetière.
My mother-in-law likes Lazy Sunday for "everyday" which she makes in a percolator.

If you want something very special there are lots to try. It's down to personal preference. I don't like a lot of modern (fashionable) lighter roasts which I find a bit "green" for me.
