If you make a curry DH won't know whether it's there or not.

Am glad to know I am not alone in thinking okra is tasteless, am just hoping that if I smother it in chilli and use in possibly an Indian curry with other tastier things that I can just ignore it. It really is one of my top 5 most hated veg. Celery comes pretty close though.

Exactly - though find it better to leave the top and tail intact.

Sago

My favourite okra recipe is to top and tail the okra, wrap in a piece of old newspaper and carefully place in the bin.

That’s a coincidence, my recipe is identical 😹

What a coincidence - that's mine too! grin It's also my favourite recipe for celery!

That does look good Velvet Vinyl, will take a look at the recipe, have to admit though I am a fan of adding chilli to dishes to give them zing, but that might suit my OH more who can't take too much zing xx

Looks pretty good. Serve over rice.

Here is a good middle eastern recipe:

Thanks, yes I think adding chilli will give it zing. Thanks will take a look at Indian recipes. In the ME they don’t tend to use chilli or pepper, hence the reason why the veg is so dull.

I first top and tail them and stir fry with sliced onions. Sprinkle a few chilli flakes on top. You can add some cream coconut or coconut milk.
If you go on to any Indian cookery website, you will find a variety of dishes using Okra ( it’s also called ‘Ladies finger’.

Years ago I met women from north west African countries, (as part of my degree course, and we swapped recipes (nothing to do with the degree - just socialising😊) and I do remember okra figured quite large in their recipes. I no longer have those recipes, but I do remember fish and spice was used a lot. Try Googling west African recipes Senegal maybe or Mali, or south of those countries.

My OH brought home a bag of okra thinking it would be good for a change. I absolutely hate the things, made gumbo with okra once and have eaten it in the ME, and it must be one of the most flavourless vegetables I can think of.
Any way that I can give the veg a bit of a zing??
