M and S tea bags.

I use Sainsbury's hope that doesn't change. I buy M&S baked beans, can't face the cost of Heinz a nd the M&S ones are lots cheaper so hope that recipe doesn't change.

I use M & S teabags that come in a gold box, I hope it isn’t these that have changed,

I’ve got 3 packets left in the box so will find out soon. I used to use the M & S gold loose tea till a couple of months ago when that changed.

I always use Yorkshire tea bags, and often find that a few of the bags in a box produce no colour or taste when I use them. Just yesterday, I made a cuppa for DH and me and his was fine, mine just wouldn't brew properly however long I left it and dunked it!

Why not simply revert to looseleaf tea? All teabags are full of plastic particles (both microplastic and nanoplastic) which are well capable of entering your bloodstream and eventually enters our water system, gets carried out to the sea and destroys sea life. If you think I am exaggerating, just look it up.

I cannot understand why we Brits (previously such purists about our CUPPA) have allowed ourselves to be influenced by this lazy American invention.

I use Morrisons own make they are 80 p for 80 bags and they make a lovely cuppa and I’m fussy as I like my tea strong

I use M&S decaffeinated tea bags, but they seem to be the same taste as usual. The Gold ones are nice.

I’m with you, Frugola. We’ve gone back to loose tea for that very reason, though we were also told years ago on a tea plantation tour that the tea used in teabags was the dusty, inferior stuff after the loose tea was packed. You do have to invest in a teapot though!

Maggiemaybe - INVEST in a teapot! Big deal! An enjoyable expense and a pottery one comes cheap. My own is one of those Japanese cast iron ones with its own filter. After using it first in the conventional way, I do not discard the tea leaves but pour over more water to cover same. I then put directly on the gas (cast iron - no problem) and make a second pot from first leaves, almost as good. If anyone has read "Angela's Ashes" and how the Irish could eke out the maximum from a few tea leaves, they will appreciate the economy of this!

I remember being fascinated by an Irish family who always kept teapot on the stove on a low heat (permamtly )

Maggiemaybe So sorry I upset you! Absolutely not my intention. Reading back my own text I realise it could have sounded a little high-handed to anyone who doesnt know me.

The trouble with written texts is that one cannot see the facial expression of the other person so there is often room for misinterpretation. I would love to invite you for a cuppa (good old looseleaf Yorkshire plus homemade shortbread) to copensate but you would need to catch a plane to where I live so you would certainly refuse my invitation.

I don’t drink much tea, so if do have a cuppa, it would have to be proper tea leaves made in a pot. I think teabags contain the sweepings, it gives me the most awful indigestion.
Got a box of a well known organic brand of teabags for guests, they too are insipid & no flavour in my opinion.

I use a teapot for tea bags! I keep meaning to use loose leaves as I have some but it never happens. I think I’ll treat myself to a strainer and then I’ll have no excuse. I’ll have to look for the dangly thing you put in mugs as well. It’s about time for a small treat.

I didn’t know this - toilet paper! we used to bulk buy this when on offer, tight rolls, excellent, then we noticed rolls were shedding fibre, then it was ‘unavailable’ here for months, then the negative comments alerted us to the difference. Is it worth buying again?
We bought Cushelle quilted and Sainsbury quilted and another heavy one, last few purchases they were thin as a whisper, with no warning.

Tea - its difficult sourcing loose tea especially Lapsang Souchong and other large leaf teas like Darjeeling. We rely on Waitrose for these.

We used to buy Ceylon tea in a green box from Sainsbury,
that was delicious and refreshing.

Tea bags are indeed the ‘sweepings up’ for speedy colour
and flavour, whereas real tea requires brewing.

So many teabags have microplastics in them. Do check your brand.

No worries, Frugola, we tea drinkers must stick together (especially we Yorkshire tea drinkers).

My favourite teapots have filters incorporated. Including a lovely deep teal London Pottery one that holds 2.5 pints, and a cute little Bird & Blend steamer if I’m making a special just for me. I’m partial to quite a few speciality teas as well, particularly liquorice, ginger or spearmint.

Just off to pop the kettle on…
