Handful of frozen stir -fry mixed veg in a small pot with more than enough water to cover. Boil until reduced enough to make Bisto gravy of the veg + water.

Pour the vegetable gravy over some (powdered) mashed potato.

Pepper to taste.

Take a bag of Sainsbury's Microwaveable Golden Vegetable Rice. Pop it in the microwave for time stated on the bag. Turn into a dish, squirt some Balsamic Glaze over and a tin of drained tuna. Mix and eat. Side salad, if you can be bothered. smile

Hi Caleo, Yes I have done them in the oven and the air fryer, they are ok but honestly the only way is to deep fry in vegetable oil in small batches. The type of potato is important too, Maris Piper are best. I've got a Lakeland small deep fat fryer but a decent saucepan would suffice. I know it's a bit of a faff but the ones I had on Friday were fantastic, in fact I'm going to this pub for lunch soon so that I can ask their chef his secret. When I learn it I will pass it on to you.grin

Re; Aldom's recipe,. I looked up Balsamic Glaze which is new to me

I want to try Aldom's recipe. So will buy it especially as it seems to be good ingredient for several other easily prepared meals,

This is what I have most days, except when I treat myself to a ready meal
Either chicken or fish, grilled or air fryer. Then lots of veg, fresh or frozen, whatever you like, on the side. No potatoes.

Balsamic glaze is very reasonably priced. Not expensive, like a good Balsamic vinegar. It's a useful item

Poached egg on toast with a side of baked beans.
Or crusty french bread cheese sandwich with all the trimmings.
Or Heinz Cream of Tomato( or Knorr Tomato and Mozarella) soup and crusty bread.

We always have a 'Meagre Monday' supper, as our weekend meals can be very indulgent and filling.

Hubby likes eggs or soup. Me not so much. I prefer a pasta microwave meal-for-one and even really like a few of the 2-for-£4 ones from Iceland. More than enough and would work well with a slice of garlic bread and a side salad any day.

I bung some bangers in the oven along with some frozen onions and mushrooms and let the oven do its work for 30 to 45 minutes. Have a shower and come back to the kitchen in time to make up some mashed potato (from powdered mashed potatoes). Any liquid from the sausages - I sometimes make into a gravy using gravy granules.

Always have Wiltshire Farm meals in the freezer for the days my hands dont want to let me cook(arthritis)! So easy to just put in Microwave, few minutes & done! No complaining hands & no empty stomach!

A baked potato, or rather, one of the 3 I microwaved a day or so previously. Slice, fry in just the merest film of oil, add an egg and fry.
Nice with some cherry tomatoes, pref. UK grown, which are available now.

Baked pot 7 mins in microwavev7 m8ns in air fyer . One of the little tins of tuna from aldi with lemon and garlic or other flavour. Tomato and cucumber . Mayo or salad dressing to taste . Yum yum my favourite.

Open pitta bread. Butter one side of the inside layer in ham,cheese and tomatoes add gherkins or pickled small onions toast until crisp. Or at a push beens on toast with a fried egg on top.

Family food when exhausted - put cheese, crackers and butter on the table - get someone else to lay plates and cutlery - and someone else to sort the drinks/cuppas. Sit, eat and chat for an hour...
