What’s happened to custard?

Years ago when I had five teenage boys to feed I often made some sort of pud with custard to fill them up. I used Birds custard powder, and we always enjoyed it. Now that we’re just two old biddies we haven’t eaten puddings for years, but the other day I did make us one - with the Birds custard powder and it was horrible! It tasted so strongly of vanilla, which I don't like. Has it changed do you think, or is it me?

I suspect that all you “custard haters” out there have been the victims of truly incompetent cooks whether at home or school.

If you enjoy something especially food I think you take the time to learn make it well. 🙂‍↔️

My DH has custard everyday with a little sponge pud.
It's his little treat 😉

As a child we had bananas and birds custard for a pudding. My mother would count out the banana slices , so the three of us were equal .
As an adult I’m not a fan of custard or though my DH and DD love it and always request for after Sunday lunch .
