Ha, I thought that’d get some of you going!

It was actually a comment I saw on Mumsnet not long ago. Glad to say most of the replies were of the ‘Lots of us!’ variety.
How about all you GNers?

We like it, though I did find out the other day that dh hadn’t a clue what ‘spring greens’ (on the list) were.
He came back with a bag of salad leaves. 😂
Obviously I should have added CABBAGE!

I have had a blood clotting disorder.
I used to have very heavy periods .
I still bruise badly and get nose bleeds .
Cabbages are a super rich source of vitamin K which is said to help .
I love them steamed and buttered with English food.
Otherwise I enjoy sauerkraut and kimchee.

Loving homemade coleslaw with apple, onion, carrot and red cabbage.
I feel like swinging from the trees after eating raw veg!

WithNobsOnIt, yes, it only needs for any vegetable to be branded a ‘superfood’ for it to become fashionable.

I sometimes wonder if and when the same will happen to sprouts!

Love it in its many varieties , hot or cold in a slaw.

With my generation ordi green cabbage had a really awful reputation. School dinners' smelt of farts, vomit inducing, and stank the place out when being cooked.

Bit full of vitamins and good for you etc. Hairs on your chest nonsense etc.

Red cabbage is delish and yummy in any life form. And frizen green cabbage is bearable when cooked in small doses

Kale, of course is the latest sexy cabbage life form. It used to be the main stay of cattle fodder back in the day. Along with turnips and swedes.

The wonders of rebranding!??

Enjoy!!!

We eat savoy cabbage boiled with a roast dinner. The other cabbage is nice in coleslaw. Red cabbage I only like pickled in vinegar.

Lots of lovely new ideas for cabbage here. We like cavalo nero too (out of season now though). Always cut out the central stems which I find tough. But like it in stir fries, added to pasta sauces etc. Adds colour and texture.

i hate boiled cabbage but love eating a jar of pickled red cabbage, better than chocolate for me.

Kartush Tue 27-May-25 22:19:25

I eat it raw in salads or my husband cooks it in the pot with the pickled pork

MiniMoon Tue 27-May-25 19:53:26

I love cabbage in all its varieties. We had spring greens last Saturday when DS came for lunch. It might have been the Sunday before when we had cavalo nero (sp.) DH's favourite is a sweetheart cabbage.

JamesandJon33 Tue 27-May-25 19:48:24

I use shredded sweetheart cabbage as ‘pasta’ in a carbonara

Flutterby345 Tue 27-May-25 19:47:05

I thought I was quite clever but had never heard that there was anyway to cook green or white cabbage but by chopping it up and boiling in salted water. I have done cleverish red cabbage with other interesting things, only thing I can remember is apple.

Love cabbage especially sweetheart cabbage, just lovely raw !

4allweknow Tue 27-May-25 18:24:08

Still eat it. Roasted in air fryer, in stir fries and of course good old boiled.

glammagran Tue 27-May-25 17:55:09

I love all green vegetables. You don’t see them so much on holidays abroad and it’s what I always crave when we arrive home.

Suzysues Tue 27-May-25 17:26:31

I haven’t had it cooked for a few years, but I have fresh red cabbage shredded as part of my salad every lunchtime.

She777 Tue 27-May-25 16:18:04

Savoy is my favourite and the only one i’m not keen on is white cabbage. I could eat sprouts every day though, my all time favourite veg.

We like cabbage, I tend to buy the Hispi, as they ain't too big but hubby likes savoy, we went to a wedding the weekend where Savoy cabbage was served as one of the vegetables with the main meal.

Took our 3 year old to a carvery. After clearing her plate she asked if she could have some more. I explained she could have more vegetables but not meat. That's okay, she replied, I want some more cabbage please. A lady in the next table had to check she'd overheard correctly 😂
