Ha, I thought that’d get some of you going!

It was actually a comment I saw on Mumsnet not long ago. Glad to say most of the replies were of the ‘Lots of us!’ variety.
How about all you GNers?

We like it, though I did find out the other day that dh hadn’t a clue what ‘spring greens’ (on the list) were.
He came back with a bag of salad leaves. 😂
Obviously I should have added CABBAGE!

DH and I, older son and younger daughter, all absolutely adore ALL types of cabbage, cooked various ways! My new favourite way to cook is sliced and stir fried with bacon or if red cabbage stir fried with thinly sliced red apples and red onions, Yom Yom Yom!

I love cabbage, steamed and tossed in butter with a grating of nutmeg.

We really like kale. I buy the whole leaves as it's easy to take the centre stalks out and cut the leaves across.
It's nice just steamed, or added to a curry towards the end of cooking instead of spinach as it's more robust and doesn't go soggy.

Yes we love cabbage. All varieties, including pickled red cabbage.

DollyRocker Fri 23-May-25 17:13:59

Definitely all cabbages, it's lovely and so good for us.

Yes I like cabbage, depending on how it's cooked of course. The Irish dish Colcannon of which cabbage is a main component along with potatoes, butter, milk/cream is lovely, even better if bacon is added. Red cabbage is also very nice and can be turned into coleslaw if it isn't cooked.

I like cabbage. I have been known to grow it with variable success.

I thought coleslaw was quite popular among younger people - that's got cabbage in it hasn't it?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 23-May-25 17:17:13

Brassicas of all varieties get eaten in our house. Love them all.

eddiecat78 Fri 23-May-25 17:27:37

I love cabbage - sadly it doesn't love me

silverlining48 Fri 23-May-25 17:34:26

Had white cabbage yesterday, but my favourite is cooked red cabbage. I do a whole cabbage divide and freeze it, reheated red cabbage tastes even better.

OldFrill Fri 23-May-25 17:39:01

Savoy, shredded and stir fried with a little garlic and lots of root ginger.

Steamed savoy cabbage with a little butter and salt and pepper - lovely.

I am having sweet Tenderheart cabbage for dinner tonight.
I shred it, wash and drain then place in a Pyrex dish with seasoning and dotted with butter. I then cover the surface with streaky bacon and microwave until tender, covering the top with a piece of kitchen paper to catch the bacon spits.

I also love cabbage, and add mint leaves and garlic cooked in a little butter or olive oil. Enjoy it raw with grated carrot, mint leaves and red onion.

Allira Fri 23-May-25 17:48:49

I like cabbage, preferably chopped small and cooked in butter for just a short while.

I'm surprised at Mumsnetters - surely cabbage, greens and particularly kale are 'in' foods at the moment? We have a DD staying and the veg drawer in the fridge is packed with bags of kale. Sometimes we have to eat it too 😀

fancythat Fri 23-May-25 17:53:56

I do. Good for us. The greens.

I eat it raw, like most of the veg I eat.

My mum said, "I will grow out of eating raw veg"
I knew at the time I wouldnt. grin
She is still around to know!

vintage1950 Fri 23-May-25 17:54:06

Cabbage is nice cooked with butter or marg and with a few caraway seeds - if you like caraway seeds, of course.

foxie48 Fri 23-May-25 18:00:54

I also use fennel seeds instead of caraway, vintage1950 I also like it quartered and air fried with miso butter. tbh I'll eat any type of cabbage and the dog loves the crunchy bits which help to clean his teeth.

garnet25 Fri 23-May-25 18:03:40

We have it stir fried with bacon, yummy.

MissChateline Fri 23-May-25 18:04:40

Cabbage is lovely especially cooked in butter. Cauliflower rice is my favourite go to now instead of rice, tasty and fewer carbs and calories.

TwiceAsNice Fri 23-May-25 18:38:44

Love cabbage. Cooked and the served with melted butter over or with a creamy mushroom sauce or raw in a homemade coleslaw . Sorry though don’t like kale but also love sprouts and I know some people hate them

ginny Fri 23-May-25 18:44:38

Yes, we eat various varieties and in a variety of of ways.

kittylester Fri 23-May-25 18:44:42

Stir fried savoy with fried bacon and onions and some double cream.

Red cabbage with red onions, apple, sultanas, cinnamon.

Witzend Fri 23-May-25 18:46:16

We’ll be having some tonight. Some leftover gammon, cubed, fried in just a film of oil with chopped onion and cubed cooked potatoes. Lots of spring greens cooked separately, chopped and added to the mix.
One of dh’s favourites.
