So doing a bit of gardening today and needed a quick snack for lunch.

Had a crisp sandwich. White bread with a good amount of butter, salt and vinegar crisps and an extra dash of vinegar for good measure!

I enjoy crisp sandwiches as an occasional snack, my children think I am disgusting!

Which side of the fence are you on?

It would have to be a very bad hangover!

Do you crisp sandwich experts recommend proper butter or my "I like to believe it's better for me" olive oil spread?

I enjoy ham and ready salted crisps in bog standard white sliced bread, with real butter.

Not had one for years... but loved them as a teenager in the summer only.

I worked every summer at the seaside and I associate them with sunshine.
Best on the beach as a treat - especially yummy when nearly out of cash!

Every once in a while I get a notion for a crisp sandwich - but I don't really eat much bread these days, so I never seem to have any in the house when that notion arrives! Either that or the crisps have all disappeared!

I'm usually a sucker for rubbish/comfort food but never has a crisp or a chip or a fish finger sandwich ever passed my lips.

I may give the crisp sandwich a go after reading this - I'm veering towards cheese and onion with cheap white totally unhealthy bread. With or without marmite I wonder - or the Dairylea triangle even.

Mr Soda likes a mashed potato sandwich - yuk.

A ham sandwich demand crisps, expensive ham and really crunchy thick cut crisps.

Love them! Cold new potato sandwiches too.

Ooh no! I don’t think I could stomach that!

Another ‘funny’ thing I used to eat is a Ryvita and date sandwich! I had it for my snack at work in the early 60s.

Cover 2 x (traditional) Ryvitas with butter. Take a slab of dates and slice fairly thickly. Place required number of slices onto one Ryvita and cover with the other.
I don’t know what it is, but biting into the Ryvitas and then into the dates is unbeatable. Takes me back! Of course, in those days I could eat whatever I liked and never put an ounce of weight on. I wouldn’t dare even look at that now or I woukd gain half a pound!

A crisp sandwich is amazing, a taste sensation. I cannot believe there are people who have never had one, you are so missing out. It's the different textures that are so fantastic. Susan Calman recently on one of her brilliant travel shows had her first crisp sandwich and my husband and I were gobsmacked that she had got to her age having never had one.

Cheese and onions are they only way to go in a crisp sandwich.

I shall never be invited to a Royal household.

Just once a year, absolutely delicious as is a chip butty, again lots of butter which melts when the hot chips hits it.
You need a napkin, paper obviously,to wipe the chin.
A real Northern treat.

Jaxjacky Sun 24-Aug-25 16:36:45

Probably once a year merlotgran I can live with that.

Astitchintime Sun 24-Aug-25 16:36:31

Definitely on your side of the fence!

Yes -but with a Dairy Lea triangle.

Sounds very nice too! 😊

You obviously have impeccable taste. Crisp sandwiches are obviously the food of the Devil but they are soo delicious.
My one proviso is that they have to be made with very cheap white bread & squashed down tightly. Flask coffee is a surprisingly good accompaniment. I haven't par-taken of this delicacy for many moons but come tomorrow it's off to the corner shop to get my long-forgotten guilty treat! 😊

merlotgran Sun 24-Aug-25 16:29:35

Sounds delicious but too many carbs for me.

rockgran Sun 24-Aug-25 15:49:36

Yes -but with a Dairy Lea triangle.

DamaskRose Sun 24-Aug-25 15:35:37
