Crisp Sandwiches

So doing a bit of gardening today and needed a quick snack for lunch.

Had a crisp sandwich. White bread with a good amount of butter, salt and vinegar crisps and an extra dash of vinegar for good measure!

I enjoy crisp sandwiches as an occasional snack, my children think I am disgusting!

Which side of the fence are you on?

😋 yummy

I've never had a crisp sandwich.
Perhaps it's time I tried one. grin

I've never had one either, never fancied one, but if that's what you like ,,enjoy it

Jaxjacky Sun 24-Aug-25 13:37:04

Definitely your side, I like salad cream in mine.

Never liked them when younger, now they’d be way too carby for me. Teenage daughter is partial to one now and then.

Absolutely gorgeous, I sometimes make one with Tomato Sauce crisps, or Cheese and Onion crisps etc. There is nothing better than a good sandwich, but you do need decent bread.
A slight departure from a sandwich is a Scrambled Egg roll.
I’m hungry now!!

Oh yes, delicious on a morning roll with butter.

Crossstitchfan Sun 24-Aug-25 13:47:46

Of course! The butter goes without saying. I don’t think anything tastes as good if butter isn’t involved!
As I am a type 2 diabetic now, this is just a very occasional treat for me, and we are warned off salt etc. (and anything else we love, it seems) but when I do treat myself, I do temper it with diabetes friendly meals for the rest of the day!

Just No. same as pably though.

Lallylou Sun 24-Aug-25 13:48:45

Gluten free salt and vinegar brown gluten free bread but it's not a regular treat! Enjoy xx

DamaskRose Sun 24-Aug-25 15:35:37

Cheese and onion crisps for me. 😋

rockgran Sun 24-Aug-25 15:49:36

Yes -but with a Dairy Lea triangle.

merlotgran Sun 24-Aug-25 16:29:35

Sounds delicious but too many carbs for me.

Ilovedogs22 Sun 24-Aug-25 16:31:42

You obviously have impeccable taste. Crisp sandwiches are obviously the food of the Devil but they are soo delicious.
My one proviso is that they have to be made with very cheap white bread & squashed down tightly. Flask coffee is a surprisingly good accompaniment. I haven't par-taken of this delicacy for many moons but come tomorrow it's off to the corner shop to get my long-forgotten guilty treat! 😊

Yes -but with a Dairy Lea triangle.

Sounds very nice too! 😊

Astitchintime Sun 24-Aug-25 16:36:31

Definitely on your side of the fence!

Jaxjacky Sun 24-Aug-25 16:36:45

Probably once a year merlotgran I can live with that.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 24-Aug-25 16:46:15

Just once a year, absolutely delicious as is a chip butty, again lots of butter which melts when the hot chips hits it.
You need a napkin, paper obviously,to wipe the chin.
A real Northern treat.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 24-Aug-25 16:46:52

I shall never be invited to a Royal household.

J52 Sun 24-Aug-25 17:56:20

Cheese and onions are they only way to go in a crisp sandwich.

Bukkie Sun 24-Aug-25 18:04:27

A crisp sandwich is amazing, a taste sensation. I cannot believe there are people who have never had one, you are so missing out. It's the different textures that are so fantastic. Susan Calman recently on one of her brilliant travel shows had her first crisp sandwich and my husband and I were gobsmacked that she had got to her age having never had one.

food of the gods

Love them! Cold new potato sandwiches too.

Another ‘funny’ thing I used to eat is a Ryvita and date sandwich! I had it for my snack at work in the early 60s.

Cover 2 x (traditional) Ryvitas with butter. Take a slab of dates and slice fairly thickly. Place required number of slices onto one Ryvita and cover with the other.
I don’t know what it is, but biting into the Ryvitas and then into the dates is unbeatable. Takes me back! Of course, in those days I could eat whatever I liked and never put an ounce of weight on. I wouldn’t dare even look at that now or I woukd gain half a pound!
