Do you have a problem with them? Some people seem to treat them a the devil's food, I honestly can't cook savoury dishes, unless I am using either or both and my family love to have the aroma around the house. I don't think food has any flavour unless they are used, that might be my
Mediterranean routes. What about you?

Love both, but cook with onions more than garlic. I've taken to buying chopped jarred garlic for ease of use.

Pickled garlic in a jar...a real treat!

Love both. We often cook with red onions but my favourites are shallots which go lovely and soft when cooked. We also have frozen chopped garlic as it's so handy for cooking.

Love both and they form the basis of many things I cook

We lifted our onion harvest just a few weeks ago………and we’re now enjoying the fruit of our labour! It is obvious how much flavour is long from commercial storage of vegetables because ours are so much tastier than the bought ones.
Cheese and onion sandwiches are our lunchtime favourite for raw onions and we use a lot in cooking too.

I love both but DH has a severe intolerance to garlic so it's a big no no in this house.
When i visit my girls they always cook me dishes with garlic so that I get my fix.

Both essential

I really have a problem, because I can't stand either. The texture of onions between my teeth is one reason. And as for the smell of garlic - it makes me heave.

This makes cooking very difficult and the end results are usually bland, but there's nothing I can do about that.

The only vegetables I eat are peas, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes and turnip (swede). Although strangely I love the smell of fried onions.

My mother used onions in cooking, but even as a child I had an aversion to them. So I can't blame my upbringing.

All very strange.

Quite like both. What would a hot dog be without onions 🧅
Or ragu sauce or just about anything.love spring onions too and baby pickled ones

Like garlic, loathe onions especially cooked onions 🧅
Avoid at all costs,

Ziplok Thu 04-Sept-25 16:53:12

I like both and use them a lot in my cooking.
It’s strange about raw onion, I like it, but it doesn’t like me so I avoid (same with pickled onions) - like rubysong, the taste lingers for hours.

rubysong Fri 29-Aug-25 22:29:14

I don't like garlic and use it rarely. I always use onions in cooked dishes but not raw. If we eat out and there is raw onion in a salad I pick it out and give it to DH. If I eat it I can still taste it for hours after.

I can't eat raw onion, but I use lots of onion & garlic when cooking, in recipes & also fried or caramalised onion as a side.& I adore pickled onions too.

Greyduster Fri 29-Aug-25 20:41:56

The Romans couldn’t do without either and neither can I😊!

Cossy Fri 29-Aug-25 20:19:07

Love both, both raw and cooked!

teabagwoman Fri 29-Aug-25 20:12:30

I love both but my digestion doesn’t so I have to limit the amount I eat.

AskAlice Fri 29-Aug-25 19:53:13

"karmalady" my Mum always sliced onions very thinly and marinated them in vinegar for use in salads (our traditional Sunday tea with brown bread and butter.) Cider apple vinegar was unknown to us then - 50s and 60s - so it was plain old brown malt vinegar. An acquired taste!

I love both onions and garlic and they are the base of many of the dishes I cook. Luckily neither I or my DH have a reaction to them.

karmalady Fri 29-Aug-25 19:45:38

onions sliced and marinated in cider apple vinegar, very beneficial. and easy on the stomach. I last used garlic cloves in with red cabbage, carrot and ginger when I made sauerkraut.

Unfortunately onions and garlic are triggers for heartburn, quite a lot of people are affected

ginny Fri 29-Aug-25 19:38:03

Use and like both.

Casdon Fri 29-Aug-25 19:17:38

I love them, but I have gastritis, and onions in particular do not love me. I have to cut them large when I’m cooking, and fish them out of my portion.

JamesandJon33 Fri 29-Aug-25 19:14:20

Love both, but DH intolerant so have to go easy.

Ziggy62 Fri 29-Aug-25 19:07:28

Yummy to both. Grow my own spring onions, taste much stronger than shop bought

Rosie51 Fri 29-Aug-25 19:02:27

Love them all! Chives included grandMattie grin
So many things I cook start by sweating a sliced or chopped onion, and roasted garlic is especially nice.

grandMattie Fri 29-Aug-25 18:54:12

I absolutely love all Alliums, except perhaps chives. Can’t live without them!

merlotgran Fri 29-Aug-25 18:48:20

Love both, especially garlic.
