Oddbox - (wonky fruit and veg) - does anyone have them?

I’m thinking about it. If you have them, are you pleased with them?

We always buy them if we see them. They are the same as other fruit and veg, just slightly out of shape which in some is not even noticeable. Plus they are cheaper.

Apologies. We don't buy from Oddbox, just supermarkets. I'm not properly awake yet!

I also buy from supermarkets and they are a lot cheaper.

I began to have these delivered during the pandemic. Back then you were given the chance to switch a few items if you didn’t like or need them. At first I was very pleased. Items were either unusually small or large, or a funny shape, and so rejected by the supermarkets, but they were fresh. I stopped then because you were not given enough ‘swaps’ and there were too many items we didn’t like or need.
A few months ago they emailed to see if I wanted to try again, and because they have changed their policy to allow unlimited swaps, I decided to give them another go, and had deliveries for some months. At first I was really pleased with everything, but then the quality and often quantity went downhill. They always refund if you complain, but it worsened considerably to the point where I have now stopped. It’s a shame, because I applaud the concept, and the fact that deliveries are made in electric vans during the evening or early hours to minimise time stuck in traffic.

DD and DSiL used them
for a while but got fed up with the same veg being delivered in larger quantities than they could use.

If we go early to our local Lidl they sell a box of mixed fruit and veg for £1.50 . By early I mean before 9 am . They do not always have them but they are great value. What I do not want th food bank gets .

I think it’s a great idea.
DD has them delivered sometimes, not regularly because they contained too many potatoes for her to keep up with.
When my life settles into a routine and I am home all the time I will have one delivered and see how it goes.

Had them during 2020 and for a while afterwards. Very pleased with deliveries. Enjoyed the surprise element. Had such a struggle with celeriac I sent them a much appreciated verse about the ‘football’. Stopped when I started visiting shops again. Lately hampered by mobility problems and was considering renewing order, sadly after reading Witzend I won’t.

I never see them in Tesco’s.

I have a small box every other week and on the whole I have been very pleased with what is delivered. Since the swop options it has been much better for us.

Jaxjacky Thu 11-Sept-25 15:37:15

I have Tesco’s perfectly imperfect veg and mixed berries in my delivery, cheaper and saving them from landfill.

Witzend Thu 11-Sept-25 17:00:12

I think I’ll give them a go, but I wish I could just say please, do not in any circumstances send me any fennel!!

Mojack26 Thu 11-Sept-25 18:05:19

Agree, supermarket and they taste no different and a lot cheaper

Dreadwitch Thu 11-Sept-25 18:05:37

I tried them, but I was getting lots of the same thing, had little choice in what went into the box and it worked out more expensive.
While I'm more than happy to eat fruit and veg in any shape or size, I'm not prepared to pay over the odds for it.

I often buy the wonky stuff from the supermarket though.

My daughter has one delivered every two weeks. She has it delivered to us as she lives in a flat and she comes to pick it up. I think she has the swaps down to a fine art now although at first she made lots of mystery soups! She got their cookery book and is very adventurous with using veg in cakes etc.

When l was a nipper in the North.
Wonky fruit and veg was the norm

Also King Edward and Lincoln Potatoes were covered in field soil at our local green grocers.

l suspect a lot of wonky is used by the food industry in food products.

And the tiny offerings used by Lidl etc are just gimmicks to attract customers.

And l bet there are tons of Wonkies who die a soggy death in landfill sites. Because the producers and supermarkets want top price for first rate products.

Tut Tut Tut

We get a very small box every week. The quality is good and it’s fun to try things you might not normally buy. Easy to swap or tell them you do not want something.
Also easy to stop if you’re going away or just need to miss a week.

Yes very happy with quality quantity and freshness. I like swaps and deliveries at 4am. They also do rescued pickles, honey sauces etc.

Kate22 Fri 12-Sept-25 12:17:05

Of course and like the fruit and vegetables of our youth!

I did have Oddbox for 6 months but its delivered in the earth hours of the morning and even though I had a big box for it to go into they didn't put the lid on. So if it rained it was soaked . And my worry was it would attract rats and mice . The quality was hit and miss and it don't always keep unless I froze it .I would rather pick my own wonky veg from shops .

Early not earth 🤦🤦🤦

HiPpyChick57 Wed 17-Sept-25 01:47:53

I’d love to try them but every time I respond to their advert I’m told they don’t deliver to my area 😭
