What is your name for these?

We had fish and chips for supper today. Not a regular occurrence. DH tried to remember the name for the bags of batter pieces one used to be able to buy.
He said scraps but I am sure when I lived in South Wales there was a different name. Perhaps scrumps ?
Do you have any others?

When I was a child in Wiltshire we called them scrumpy.

We always called them gribbles in Devon. They were free which was perfect when my friends and I were students .

They sell them at Harry Ramsdens Greyduster, they are really popular there, and you can buy frozen Harry Ramsdens ones too.

I don’t think I ever saw scallops in a fish and chip shop. The nearest we got to a slice of potato dipped in batter was a fish cake - two slices of potato with a slice of fish in the middle, dipped in batter and fried.

I worked in a fish and chips shop in my teens. We called them scraps.

I always ask for scraps (to be placed under my fish so hubby doesn’t see them) 😂

Scallops are slices of potato, battered and fried. I'm from the Black Country and we love them here - along with what I always knew as 'batters' - but in Worcestershire, where I live now, they're called 'batter bits'.

I've always understood scallops are a kind of shellfish. Dad's word was scollops, (rhymes with trollops).

They are both called scallops, but I’ve never seen the shellfish scallops served in a fish and chip shop, whereas potato scallops often are, and are nice.

My father-in-law (Northumberland) called them scramptions. The mobile chippy here just calls them scraps.

well we had a mix, so Scraps, Scrumps, and bits, were all used when I was a child in east yorkshire and great was the glee when you got the occasional bit of fish in the batter.

I am one of the minority who dislike chips so I always had fish and scratchings. I live in Essex.

😆 Yes indeed!
Yet once in a blue moon is ok for a scrumptious little treat.
We called them batter bits in the West mids.
