How many kinds of mince pies have you sampled so far?

I like apple (Bramley) in the mincemeat too.

Never glacé cherries, too sweet.

I hate mince pies unless I make them .
It's because I find them too sweet and cloying .
I mix bananas and apples in my mincemeat and then they taste much better .
I haven't found a shop bought one that I prefer.
Any suggestions so I don't have to make them?

My grandson asked for one in a cafe last week but I said no because it isn't Christmas.
That was a bit sad!

Not tried one yet; the Co-op is not somewhere I go to usually but I might try to get there and try theirs this year.

Waitrose isn't open and I'm not sure when it will re-open after the flood. ☹

My pastry is not as good as it used to be and Tesco no longer do their own pastry made with all Normandy butter so I won't be making any.

Waitrose made with brown butter and cognac. By far the best (so far).
I do make my own and the mincemeat but they get made on Christmas Eve, in case anyone eats them! I feel shop bought and eaten in November doesn’t count as it’s just a sweet treat, until the 1st December when it becomes traditional. I also eat 12 mince pies between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day as I once read that was traditional too, it represents each of the apostles. I may have made that one up to justify eating so many but it’s a tradition I’ve adhered to for 30+ years!

Seriously mince pies are one of the most unhealthy foods you can eat- but I do love them.

I always make a big thing of my first mince pie of the season- but it very often becomes the last one too!

One reason I won’t make any until 1st December is that dh will almost inhale them, and TBH I’m not much better. So best to keep our sheer piggery for the actual 🎄season.

I usually make my first lot with the first carols playing (Carols from King’s CD) and a glass of mulled wine on the side. 😋🎄

Another recommendation for Iceland Luxury Mince pies too...they are my favourite.

I’ve tried 2 but neither were from a supermarket. One was from a cafe and the other was from a food and craft fayre yesterday. Neither were anything to write home about.

I’m not buying any from a supermarket till nearer the festivities as I can’t be trusted with a box of 6 in the house. In previous years our favourites have been Waitrose all butter and Tesco the best range.

I have 2 boxes of Tesco finest in the freezer as few like them these days, same as Christmas pudding which I used to make and the Delia Creole cake which is wonderful. Mincemeat is so easy to make though, I may make some today!

hot cross buns yummy food of the Gods! anyway as a serious mince pie expert the Co-op ones had lovely creamy buttery pastry and generous filling
Now, onto Tesco. my dad loved the bakery puff pastry ones and when i see those i have to get some as a tribute to dad! the only drawback is the crumbs but pop some custard on and they are fine.
also at Tesco are plant based mince pies perfect for vegan guests, they are just as good could not taste the difference so worth bearing in mind for entertaining

Not a fan. The mincemeat has gritty bits in it. I don’t object to one a year but my OH just bought about 20 for me. I can’t understand why he doesn’t understand that I don’t like sweet stuff. I love Bovril type flavours. He’s on the weight loss jab and will end up eating them all!

Tried about 3 or 4 so far. My NDN bought us some from Morrisons Bakery and the pastry was lovely but we found the filling and the pie in general a bit too much to eat in one go. Half the size would be fine.
Iceland Luxury Mince pies are'nt too bad either.

I have a friend who makes delicious mince pies with a frangipan topping. She generously gives me six each year. We don’t share them with anyone!
The down side is that any other mince pies, including the ones I make using Delia’s recipe, come a rather sad second at best!

None. I make my own using M&S brandy and clementine mincemeat, but I won’t make them until just before Christmas.

I have tried mince pies from both Tesco and Lidl and much prefer the deluxe Lidl ones. I am no good at making pastry so never make my own.

I’m not keen on shop made mince pies usually, but do like Llidl’s deluxe Almaretto mince tarts- but please leave some for me! I think Aldi also do similar mince tarts but have not tried them yet.
