How about paella made with prawns, peppers and peas?
Finding a nice pair of cropped trousers?
If I were a stick of rock, I'd have carnivore written right through me.
I have however made some progress over the past couple of years in cutting down on red meat.
So I thought I'd take a shot at No Meat May.
But I must have a massive appetite, because I've spent ages looking at recipes and most of them are what I would serve as side dishes to my meat - and I doubt I'd want to eat that much of them to make them into my main dish.
So let me challenge you no meat eaters - here's my criteria
- I like all fish with the exception of mackerel and kippers
- I don't want my no meat meal to be something disguised as meat - so no pretend meat.
- I don't like tofu, or paneer, or yoghurt/creme fraiche/sour cream/fromage frais or cream cheese.
- Soup and a roll doth not a meal make - that's called a "starter"
- I like chicken and turkey if that's not going too far down the cheating route.
OK......get set.....go......
Hit me with your ideas

Ps I do want to save the planet .....

Holy moley. To take the time to say you cannot stand these "gimmick" months - or even think about them to the extent that you can't stand them....
....bet you're fun at parties.
When you're all enjoying Dry January, Sober October, trying to grow your moustaches in Movember we're out partying and having fun!
It seems strange that someone who didn't find Scribbles's post funny thinks others are not much fun at parties 😂

Yes, ferry. I reckon we must be at least as much fun as all those ernest folk giving up meat, cutting out carbs, counting their steps, drinking responsibly, saving the planet ...
And maybe the NHS while they’re at it! 🤔
I am just happening to have a vegetarian day to day. Not planned, but the result of a sudden need to reorganise my menu plan to allow for a visit from DD, over tomorrow lunch
That is what being an omnivore means you chose from the wide range of foods available to you in order to have a mixed diet.
Some years ago the food writer came up with the mantra^Eat well, not too much, mostly plants^ and its corollary If its made from a plant eat it, if it is made in a plant don't
I use these two statements as the guiding lights to my relaxed eatn style.

About as much fun at parties as those who parrot the gimmicks or vaunt their veganism.
Eat what you like (or what you can afford).
Soup and a roll doth not a meal make - that's called a "starter"
Cullen skink (Scottish soup recipe) is a complete meal . No meat, just fish and veg.

What's wrong with red meat?
I try to eat lamb and beef once a week, though it is becoming very expensive.
Cold roast beef sold in Tesco has no additives and is great on sandwiches and salads, though this isn't cheap either it is worth the extra money for me.
Surely a mixed diet is better for we omnivores, rather than restricting foods for no discernible clear reason?
I also eat fish and at least one vegetarian meal once a week.

Cannot stand these 'gimmick' months....Movembet,Veganuary, never heard of No Meat May but ifyou wantto cut down on redmeatjust do it...
Me, too Mojack.
Stoptober ... Dry January ... the mere notion makes me want to open the Shiraz for breakfast and enjoy it with a Sobranie in a long holder!
Perhaps we're just rather Contrary Marys.
😂

Yes, I find them somewhat annoying.
Not enough to make me rant but just mildly irritating.
Dry January? Dieting January with all the Christmas food to finish up?

I sympathise with your legume problem. I find lentils, and chickpeas cause bowel problems (or are useful for curing a different bowel problem.
I’m going out for a meal tonight with friends. It’s an Indian restaurant with good veggie and gf choices.
That’ll be one day sorted! 😄
This sounds delicious! Do you add any stock when using your slow cooker?
I find good tinned tuna has flavour, I like it with mayo and dill.
I eat fish 4 or 5 days a week. Salmon is key. Poached in the microwave.
Couldn't get enough protein without it, I am lactose free and many legumes are not good for my tummy issues.
But I love raw food, chopped loads of salad, baby tomatoes, and chopped green pepper and chopped mange tout for enough green stuff as well as rocket and watercress. All the year round.
How about a Spinach and ricotta lasagne - it’s really tasty. BBC Good Food have a recipe on line but if you can’t be bothered to make it, Waitrose have a lovely one in their meal deal section!
I was browsing the “on-line” shelf of tinned fish. There is all sorts. Thought I’d try some. This week it’s mackeral. Not sure what I’m going to do with it - probably with a salad.
Can anyone tell me why tuna has become utterly tasteless these days?
I think I used to make it with kippers. I then moved on to looking at recipes with sardines as I use a lot of sardines these days.

Why is eating fish more than once a week unhealthy? I've never heard that
Yes, I was wondering the same. We have fish at least twice a week so can you please enlighten us Macaydia?
So do we.
I was planning on making kedgeree tomorrow which we haven't eaten for years! I used to make it with undyed smoked haddock but all I could find this morning in the supermarket was the yellow dyed smoked haddock.
I'm hoping the dye is turmeric or similar.
Fish for the third time this week 😲I’ve been wanting to eat kedgeree ever since there was a question about it on Who Wants to be a Millionaire! It’s years since I made it.
I've forgotten!! Will have to look it up.
It started off as a breakfast dish many years ago, I think.

For some reason 15 year old DGS has a passion for tinned fish. A tin of fish, any fish, is his idea of the perfect snack - and he is a growing boy.
