I don’t know why I am here. I’m a vegetarian. But the price of meat is shocking!

I have eaten steak but these days I don’t eat meat.
People may be surprised but synthetic is reall y no different!!

It's Japanese. I have eaten at a farmer friend's who has a herd in Suffolk. It was delicious but I certainly wouldn't pay those prices.

France is not good for beef. I find it's the restaurateurs who buy the best steaks. I've recent my had basse cote in a couple of local restaurant s. Absolutely fabulous. Supposed to be to share but easily feeds four, so we get foggy packets.

I have tried to get my farmer neighbour to get a Hereford or Aberdeen Angus bull to run with his bio pedigree veal Limousin herd. He gives me a withering look!!

I don't salivate over a steak, I'll have it occasionally. I 'd rather go to a really good fish restaurant, that serve fish other than the standard cod, haddock and place and cook it in other ways than deep fried and battered.

Staying at my DD’s I am shopping in the UK. At her local butcher I ordered a spider steak cut, I have to order it as it is not so popular here. I also ask for the stringy bits to be cut out, which my French butcher does naturally. Bizarrely, it is sold here by item not weight, but just over 300 gram it is just under £6 but is very tasteful.

Don’t know what Waugh steak is? Think it’s just a new fangled media fashion thingy like the dubai Ice-creams!!!
I like ‘skirt steak’ or in France it’s called bavette - not so fashionable but much cheaper!!! Everything is so expensive.

That's ridiculous you are saying that a 1 acre field of Soya Beans yielding around 1 ton of crop is equal to 100 acres of beef cattle. Plant protein is more efficient than livestock, in the UK we grow very little plant protein for human consumption, climate is not suitable - yet, if it gets hotter every year it might be.

The reality is that most cattle and sheep are kept on poor quality land that cannot grow protein crops, Range, Bush and Hill regions with very low stocking rates. 100 acres of pasture would feed over 100 beef cattle for a year thats a great deal more protein than 1 ton of Soya

I don't eat much meat, prefer fish. I've had a wagyu burger before and quite frankly it tasted like any other burger but I'm not a connoisseur. Don't think I'd ever pay £50 for one steak but I would be curious to know what it tasted like, how could it possibly taste good enough to spend that much?

I thought Wagyu steak came from New Zealand, probably because that was where I first saw it! I have had it, my dil who is the best cook ever, cooked it for us last time I was in Australia with them and it was absolutely out of this world! The flavour was like nothing I had ever tasted and the flavour and texture were out of this world! I have not eaten steak since!

There’s a farm just outside of dunblane that rears wagyu beef as well as Scottish breeds like AberdeenAngus and Highland cows.
It has a restaurant onsite and a website for orders .We took a visitor there a couple of years ago and he and my OH said the beef was terrific.
I don’t eat meat of any description so I only have their word for it.

I certainly wouldn't appreciate a Waygu steak at a high price I would cook a 12oz Rib Eye or Sirloin at home, in a decent restaurant steak is usually £30, we dont eat out often, 2 courses and a bottle of wine gets to £100 easily.
We both cook, so at home we can get a better meal for £20 or less.

They have Wagyu steak in Aldi, a sirloin steak is about £9.50 but they were on offer at £7.50 so I tried it and couldn’t tell any difference between it and their Aberdeen Angus 40 day aged sirloin steak.

Many years ago my son bought a five stuffed bird from Lidgates for Christmas. It was absolutely delicious.. It would have been rude to ask the price!!!!

On a poorer note, last weekend we had a dry aged sirloin steak from Aldi, which had been loitering in the freezer for a while. It was utterly scrummy. We frequently have their rib-eyes, which are equally good (they have been on special offer recently).

Also, we have one steak between the two of us - ample - which means we can indulge more often!

Lidl grass fed fillets are fantastic, at about £8 each I think.

It’s the marbling I think that gives it the flavour. I am not sure if they are totally grass fed though.

I haven’t tasted Wagyu beef, but I reckon a piece of British bred organic beef, totally grass fed and humanly killed will give wagyu a run for its very expensive money.

I was treated to a Michelin * tasting menu a couple of months ago. One of the extra dishes was wagyu steak at £50. When it arrived it was three one inch cubes of meat.
I will say that it was the most amazing steak I have ever eaten and a taste that I will never forget. Worth every penny for the absolute pleasure of trying it.
M&S do a wagyu steak for about £17 which is big enough for two people and is very good. We treat ourselves to “steak Friday “ most weeks. Love it.

Aldi sell packs of two fillet steaks for £13.49 we've had quite a few and they've been delicious. I certainly wouldn't pay £50/60 for a steak, someone's taking the proverbial, but no doubt, there will be those willing to pay those prices

I don't like steak, but even if I did , I wouldn't pay that for it.

I love a nice steak but I wouldn't pay those prices. We don't eat much red meat now, partly for health reasons and partly because it's so expensive.

The advert said it was British and Australian Wagyu beef.
I had thought it all came from Japan.

No, I love a steak and had one only yesterday, £18 at a local independent eatery near me, beautifully tender and nicely seasoned, came with fries, sides and cooked medium/rare to perfection.

Why would I pay £50+ for something I have to then cook myself.
