Steak this weekend?

We only buy steak for a treat these days. Here wagyu beef fillet is about $25 -$35 a kg so they are definitely ripping you off there. Daylight robbery.

I rarely buy steak any more, but if I were going to, it’d be top quality British, e.g. aged Aberdeen Angus, not Japanese.

We all had lunch at a Hawksmoor steak restaurant not long
ago. Everyone was very pleased with their meal, and my sister from America said her Chateaubriand was the best she’d ever had. One of the staff told us that all their beef comes directly from a particular farm in Yorkshire. There was a delivery just as we were leaving the London Docklands restaurant.

Sirloin for around £6 at Aldi. Best I've ever bought in a supermarket. We buy one and chop it up for a stir fry.

When I was in a steak restaurant in Istanbul the table of 4 beside us bought a steak to share that cost £1000. It was extremely thick so Ive no idea how they’d have cooked it through.

I do not like steak mostly due to the fact that my meat would have to be "cremated" before I would eat it! Then I would get told off for ruining it! Therefore I do not have a problem with the price as I never buy it

Waygu steak, £60+ for a sirloin, £50+ for a smaller fillet.

Have you/ Would you ever pay so much for meat?
I thought it was for a pack, no, a single steak.

Their Wagyu Rib Eye Steak (1 x 250g) has a current price of £74.10

You can get "lower quality" for a quarter of the price from, say,Sainsbury's or Tesco.

And even more eye-wateringly expensive there is Olive Wagyu!

My son cooked Wagyu steak. It was ridiculously expensive, and we didn’t like the texture of it.

Absolutely not! But then I’m not a great lover of red meat. Would pay for a lovely lump of monkfish tho but not that much!

Had a lovely fillet steak from Tesco this week. Cooked just over rare, tender as butter, mmmmm!

Just back from M&S simply food where a single Wagyu fillet steak was £21.
I resisted the temptation but did buy 2 Wagyu burgers which were part of an offer.

I can't say I would spend a lot, but I do like steak. Can't eat it on my own because of previous choking experience at my daughter's house. She was ready to do that special manoeuvre as I had gone quite a while not able to breathe properly.
There was a special offer at the Co op here recently where members could buy a large piece of steak and some sweet potato fries for just £4. I bought some for my son in law. He said it was very tasty

I've had wagyu steak at a business dinner (paid for by someone else!). It was absolutely delicious and I'm glad I was able to try it.

I did once buy some from Aldi and although it was nice it wasn't anything like the restaurant offering.

The wagyu in British supermarkets is not Grade A Japanese. I believe some of the online meat suppliers stock Japanese - Dukes Farm I think does.

I'm more than happy with my Aldi rib eye - and that's only on "treat" days.

The only time I’ve had wagyu steak was in Singapore, some years ago. Way too pricy here.

Genuine Wagu only comes from a specific part of Japan and is certified.
Most 'Wagu' sold here - in shops or online or in 'ordinary' restaurants - is more 'in the style of' and would be British or Australian**

I've had it in restaurants and have bought it but wasn't over impressed. There's isn't anything I've tasted that beats a British Aberdeen Angus ribeye with an accompaniment of Bernaise!!

** Best to avoid Australian or American beef as it's pumped full of hormones. Illegal here.

The best steak I've ever had was in Maderia it came from the Azores where a very high rainfall makes beef production very efficient. We don't see any of it here Portugal keeps it all for themselves

I have had a rib eye steak at a local restaurant and it was delicious for £16. I would feel £60 for a steak would be too much and think how I could of used the money differently

I don't often buy steak to cook at home, preferring to eat it when we're out for a meal. My favourite is ribeye but so often when we see it in the supermarket it is cut far too thin.

I’m not good at cooking steak (what am I good at) 🤷🏻‍♀️. It would be a waste.
