Hoping this is the right place to start this thread.

Waitrose supermarket still sells loose veg, but no longer supplies the compostable bags to put them in. Instead, you have to pay 20p for a reusable net bag. I was in a hurry to get my own and and someone else's shopping the other day, so bought one of these bags, and put onions for both of us in the one bag and I think I lost on the deal splitting the cost in half!

Anyone else experienced this? I'd go to Tesco, but it's quite a drive for me. I have visions of having to print out 6 separate price tags on the scales in Waitrose to stick on 6 separate potatoes!

Our Sainsbury’s has had these bags for years.

I purchased 10 about 3 years ago, and another 5 earlier this year.

I use them in supermarkets and local farm shops.

Every little thing helps cut down on plastic waste,

I think several supermarkets have tried to get rid of free veg bags, I did buy some of the bags from Tesco but never remembered to take them with me. There’s nothing to stop you putting the veg straight into your trolley to weigh at the till, or taking any old bag with you?

I find the re-usable veg bags I bought years ago in Aldi so handy for so many things.

They are a kind of see through fabric with a drawstring top. I use them for sewing /knitting projects (smaller ones obviously) and wish i could still get them but they've been unavailable for ages.

As has been said, every little helps ib the fight against plastic.

When i asked at the till if they would get them again he didn't know but was telling about the time he remembered (during covid) an older man who was quite 'merry' shall we say, and pulled one over his head as he had no mask.

I find they just become as much of a habit to pop in the shopping bags I keep in the boot of the car. I don't have a Waitrose near me to shop in but am surprised that they have taken this long to get rid of them.

Bridie54. Waitrose vegetable bags have long been biodegradable.
I have used the drawstring, reusable bags for years. I was lucky enough to find a pack of six new bags in a charity shop.

Why not just provide paper bags?

I've made my own net bags from old net curtains.

I put my veg on the scales at the till without a bag, then pop them in the paper bag afterwards. It works really well for everything except perhaps sprouts, which do tend to roll around all over the place.

Why would you have to weigh them individually? , surely once you have purchased the bags when you go the next time you take them with you and put what ever you are buying in them , then they go on the scale you select what it is, it weighs them and you print off the price label.

I just chuck them into the basket loose and bagless.
