I've found the entire song of Sister Susie's Sewing Shirts for Soldiers, here it is:

Sister Susie's Sewing Shirts

Sister Susie's Sewing Shirts For Soldiers
Sister Susie's sewing in the kitchen on a "Singer",
There's miles and miles of flannel on the floor
And up the stairs,
And father says it's rotten getting mixed up with the cotton,
And sitting on the needles that she leaves upon the chairs.

And should you knock at our street door
Ma whispers, "Come inside."
Then when you ask where Susie is,
She says with loving pride:

(fast)
"Sister Susie's sewing shirts for soldiers
Such skill at sewing shirts
Our shy young sister Susie shows!

Some soldiers send epistles,
Say they'd sooner sleep in thistles
Than the saucy, soft, short shirts for soldiers sister Susie sews."

Piles and piles and piles of shirts she sends out to the soldiers,
And sailors won't be jealous when they see them,
Not at all.
And when we say her stitching will set all the soldiers itching,
She says our soldiers fight best when their back's against the wall.

And little brother Gussie, he who lisps when he says "yes",
Says "Where's the cotton gone from off my kite?
Oh, I can gueth!"

(faster)
"Sister Susie's sewing shirts for soldiers
Such skill at sewing shirts
Our shy young sister Susie shows!

Some soldiers send epistles,
Say they'd sooner sleep in thistles
Than the saucy, soft, short shirts for soldiers sister Susie sews."

I forgot to tell you that our sister Susie's married,
And when she isn't sewing shirts
She's sewing other things.
Then little sister Molly says,
"Oh, sister's bought a dolly.
She's making all the clothes for it
With pretty bows and strings."

Says Susie:
"Don't be silly"
As she she blushes and she sighs.
Then mother smiles and whispers with a twinkle in her eyes:

(even faster)
"Sister Susie's sewing shirts for soldiers
Such skill at sewing shirts
Our shy young sister Susie shows!

Some soldiers send epistles,
Say they'd sooner sleep in thistles
Than the saucy, soft, short shirts for soldiers sister Susie sews."

(Breakneck Speed Finale)
"Sister Susie's sewing shirts for soldiers
Such skill at sewing shirts
Our shy young sister Susie shows!

Some soldiers send epistles,
Say they'd sooner sleep in thistles
Than the saucy, soft, short shirts for soldiers sister Susie sews."

"Gas Bag" was a slang term for airships.

Bathsheba, you've reminded me of one I was taught in first-year French: si six saucissons sont six sous, combien des saucissons sont sept sous? (if six sausages are six sous, how many sausages are seven sous?)

Violet-Elizabeth Bott would have had problems!

Which wicked witch's wicked wish was it?

Sister Susie sewing shirts for sailors. Can anyone remember the rest of that one?

We went to a local Panto with 4 of my grandchildren at Christmas and have all been singing the coffee pot song ever since. The last line is the best: “If I can’t have a proper cup of coffee in a proper copper coffee pot I’ll have a cup of tea”. My grandchildren took it back to Australia.

Oops, that should have been Susie who was sitting and shining wink

Bathsheba Fri 08-Mar-19 09:18:17

MiniMoon we used to say a longer version of that one:

She sells sea shells on the sea shore
The shells that she sells are sea shells I'm sure
If she sells sea shells on the sea shore
I'm sure she sells sea shore shells.

And to join gillybob in lowering the tone, what about:

Daisy, Daisy sitting in the shoe shine shop
All day long she sits and shines
All day long she shines and sits

Try saying that quickly grin

Lots of hot coffee in a proper copper coffee pot.

Peggy Babcock. Say it a few times rapidly.

The one I had most difficulty with was rapid repeating of "Red leather, yellow leather"

Years later I learned it was because one needs to move the tongue back and forth

Many years ago we used to have French exchange students staying with us during the Easter and summer holidays. One of them taught me a French tongue twister. tous chasseurs sachant chasser doit savoir chasser sans son chiens (all hunters who know how to hunt should know how to hunt without their dogs)

She was very frustrated that I had no trouble with it - chiefly because the sounds are very common in the English language, but less so in French, so they tend to trip over it smile

To lower the tone ....

I’m not a pheasant plucker I’m a pheasant pluckers son and I sit here plucking pheasants ‘til the pheasant pickings done .

She sells seashells on the sea shore
And the shells she sells are sea shore shells.

Urmstongran, we used to say a similar rhyme when playing ball. I can't remember the beginning, but the end went;
"Oreye oreye ,
Chickori chickori,
Oni oni ompom pony
Walla walla whiskey
Chinese junks".

Alla Balla Whisky
Chinese Chum

My father taught me that when I was about 7y.
He had been in The Royal Navy and learnt it there.
You have to say it really fast and I taught it last month to our 6y old grandson and he loves it too now!
He’s been keeping them entertained in the playground ?
