The undercover detective who used to be the tractor driver at the farm. He arrested Lydia Lett, who is an imposter. He spoke quietly with Jeanie, telling her that the old man was still alive, therefore she was a free woman.

But, Jeanie got into a terrible panic. What with all the trauma of these peculiar events, she'd completely forgotten about the old man. Who the heck was he now?

Then, she remembered: the old man with the lantern, who had reminded her of her grandfather, until he tried to return her credit card, and her instinctive high kick in self-defence had left him for dead! Or were they two separate people? She'd never been quite certain, as it had been such a blur of darkness and atavistic fear, but now she could leave that problem behind her, and go off....

But as she approached the village she became aware of a stronger smell of fish than she remembered. Loud splashing was coming from the beach below her path and someone was singing Wellerman at the top of their voice. She slipped quietly down the cliff path and was amazed at the sight she saw.

A shipwreck, a beached whale and a cargo of sugar, tea and rum. The latter being scattered on the beach. No wonder the handsome fisherman was singing Wellerman!!

A gang of cut-throat pirates - some with eye patches, ear-rings and long flowing dreadlocks a la Jack Sparrow- were eagerly rummaging through the cargo while the fisherman stood swaying, clutching a bottle of rum and grimacing at the smell wafting up from the whale. Suddenly one of the more savage looking pirates looked up and saw Jeannie on the cliff path. “Look at that beauty!” he yelled and led the disreputable rabble in a charge up the beach towards the horrified Jeannie who...

ran into one of the caves at the edge of the beach. She went deep inside the cave which suddenly opened out into a large cavern. They hauled it out but struggled to open it as the fastening was badly rusted. The handsome fisherman girded his loins and gave the corner a heave. It sprung open and inside ...
