Welcome to the Fourth Thread, Questioners and Answerers!

Are you feeling Autumnal?

henetha Wed 27-Oct-21 16:53:37

Not really, although I must admit to getting a bit uptight sometimes in case they deliver it to the wong address.
I've got a good arrangment for parcels to be left at when I am out.

Are you looking forwart to darker evenings? I think the clocks go back this weekend. Do you put your lights on really early?

labazsisslowlygoingmad Wed 27-Oct-21 17:31:40

our house is quite dark so we often have our lights on really early but I think it's really cosy with fire on curtains drawn and lights on so yes looking forward to that, more private!

when you visit someone's house what is one thing that really irritates you?

BBbevan Wed 27-Oct-21 17:37:21

The smell if they have dogs. I won’t not go but I am glad to leave.
Going back to the parcel thing. My DD lives at the end of a long drive, takes over 10 mins to walk to the gate. One parcel delivery company insists on dropping her parcel by the gate and then texting her that it is there. Do you think this is acceptable?

grandMattie Thu 28-Oct-21 05:39:22

No. But the hours and number of deliveries that the delivery people have to work/do is scandalous.

Do you or have you ever smoke/d?

TillyTrotter Thu 28-Oct-21 07:19:54

Yes, but not for 33 years. I’m glad I don’t as it’s a costly habit.

Do you remember your “first date”. What made it memorable?

hollysteers Thu 28-Oct-21 10:05:02

What a nice question! My first date was with the bosses son. Tall dark and handsome. I even remember the dress I was wearing, pale grey cotton with lemon stripes. It was memorable because when he kissed me whilst dancing I thought I was going to die! I have never forgotten that particular night even though lots has happened since.
Nothing came of it as he was Jewish and married a Jewish girl.

Have you eaten or cooked rabbit?

BBbevan Thu 28-Oct-21 10:09:20

Yes when I was a child. My mother told us it was chicken. Then my sister said ‘ chickens don’t have backbones ‘ No more rabbit.
We also had stuffed heart. Yuk.
Did your mother ever dish up such things?

AGAA4 Thu 28-Oct-21 10:17:44

Yes. Heart, liver and kidneys were often on the menu. I think they were quite inexpensive and I know lots of people ate them in those days. As you say Yuk!

What is your earliest memory?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 28-Oct-21 17:01:10

I think I recall bouncing in my cot which tipped over.

Which decade do you consider to be your era?

GrannyMacawell Thu 28-Oct-21 21:11:49

The 90's..I was in my 20's.

what's your favourite season and why?

ginny Thu 28-Oct-21 23:02:44

Summer, long light days and evenings. I like to be warm.

biglouis Fri 29-Oct-21 00:31:39

Ill answer GrannyMacawell since there is no question!

I like autumn for the colours of the leaves and the sometimes warm mild evenings.

Do you ever order clothes in several sizes and return the ones that dont fit?

Mollygo Fri 29-Oct-21 08:46:23

Not usually-though when it’s pay for delivery I’m sorely tempted. The exception was some waterproof overtrousers -where the sizes were S M L XL etc without any measurements. It said -normal fit, so I ordered M and L just in case it didn’t allow for trousers underneath. They should have said ‘skin-tight’ and ‘OK over tights’’!
I sent them both back and ordered from a firm with more precise measurements.

Do you have waterproof clothing, apart from a mac for wet weather?

BBbevan Fri 29-Oct-21 10:19:51

Yes waterproof trousers for walking. We call them ‘rustles’ because they do.

Booster jabs today in an old warehouse. Have you had any nice venues for your jabs ?

hollysteers Fri 29-Oct-21 10:47:24

My first jabs were in the University where I used to teach. It was strange being there as an outsider, my next jab is in the twin centre.

Are you a sweet or savoury person?

hollysteers Fri 29-Oct-21 10:49:30

In the town centre?

henetha Fri 29-Oct-21 11:02:51

I'm trying hard to be savoury, but keep lapsing into sweet.
So I suppose I'm naturally sweet.

(My recent booster jab was at a racecourse)

Do you mend things? I mean, like taking up a hem, or putting in a new zip. Some young women don't seem to know how to sew a button on these days. I suppose the days of darning a sock are long gone.

Juliet27 Fri 29-Oct-21 11:08:16

I’m afraid I don’t take after my mum who used to smock my dresses when I was small. I’m not beyond sewing on a button though!!

How much do you iron nowadays? When I first married I even used to iron pants!!

DanniRae Fri 29-Oct-21 11:26:57

I do hardly any ironing and Mr R does his own grin

Do you hand wash anything?
(There is a jumper of Mr R's at the bottom of the laundry basket waiting to be hand washed. It's been there since last winter!)

biglouis Fri 29-Oct-21 15:21:48

I hand was certain cashmere sweaters and vintage fabrics.

Have you ever had a bird fly into your house?

One hot summer evening a huge crow or blackbird flew into the kitchen and settled into a corner. My nephew caught it in an old t-shirt and took it outside. We gave it a pan of water and it was drinking so we think it might have been dehydrated and dazed. It did eventually fly off.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 29-Oct-21 15:46:39

Not the house, but in an office where I worked many years ago. A bird flew through the open window and then perched on top of the phone! The quick-minded boss put a box over it to try and keep it calm and somehow got it back to the window so that it could fly out again. I think we all held our breath - one of the girls was very scared of 'flappy things.'

Can you sing?

hollysteers Fri 29-Oct-21 20:10:24

Yes and have been a professional singer and teacher.
My voice is not what it was, but I sing with a rather more limited range.

You are stuck with a lifetimes supply of the last drink you drank. What is it?
(Water)

crazyH Fri 29-Oct-21 20:53:22

Mango juice

What is your ‘go to’ comfort food?

Mollygo Fri 29-Oct-21 21:06:25

Porridge. Warm, comforting and relatively healthy.

What do you put on porridge if you eat it?

BBbevan Fri 29-Oct-21 21:38:05

Blueberries and maple syrup

What do you clean your teeth with.? We have natural bristle brushes
